Why stay here ...

Holmside CL is located on the western edge of the Lake District with easy access to the Wasdale and Eskdale valley as well as numerous beautiful beaches.

The site has 5 hardstanding pitches each with a section of grass for awnings and/or relaxing. It benefits from sun nearly all day and has stunning views down the Wasdale Valley to Scawfell Pike. A gentle river runs down the back of four pitches which helps to create the relaxing, peaceful atmosphere you will experience whilst staying at the site. There is very little light pollution so on clear nights star gazing is a must.

It provides an ideal base for walkers and cyclists who can experience excellent routes directly from the site, as well as Wasdale Valley being 9 miles away.

If you prefer a day at the beach then this is also very easily accessible with Seascale beach being a short 10 minute drive from the site where there are plenty of amenities including a local shop supplying local produce, who can deliver to the site if required, and an ice cream shop on the beach front.

The village of Gosforth is roughly 1 mile from the site, a 20 minute stroll, where you can find numerous pubs, an Italian restaurant and the Yam Frae Yam tearoom.

There are numerous attractions nearby including the famous La'al Ratty and Muncaster Castle. All local attractions, pubs & takeaway information can be found in the on site Information hut where you will also find games and books to help occupy your time. Busy Bees Buffets are based in the main house and offer afternoon teas, breakfasts, cakes and meals delivered to your caravan if you fancy treating yourself.

A links golf course can be found in Seascale as well as a second course 8 miles south of the site.

Dogs are more than welcome on the site but please keep them on a lead at all times and pick up any mess.

There are horses in nearby paddocks and are ofen worked in the arena linked to the site. We do ask that you do not feed the horses.

We do not offer car charging facilities on site at this time.

Caroline, Chris and Alison look forward to welcoming you to Holmside and hope to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

A cut above the rest

We spent 5 nights at this very welcoming CL. Christine was the perfect host. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She was friendly and it set a nice atmosphere amongst other campers as well. There was a really useful honesty shop on site with lots of information, local home made goods, supplies and even ice-creams. The site was beautifully kept without being like someone's front lawn that you were too scared to walk on. We also found that our unit was well protected by an embankment just behind the vans. Christine also provided a meals service... We had a full breakfast brought to our van on our first morning and other people on the site were availing themselves of cooked dinners and breakfasts. We also had bacon and sausage baps the morning we left. All for a very reasonable extra cost. Brilliant!

Had a lovely peaceful week here in July 2024. Caroline and her family made us more than welcome. The site has spacious and well spaced pitches. Dogs are very welcome. EHU is available and we were offered loan of a longer cable if required. They have thought of everything. Food is offered and a menu and price list is available in the on-site information centre and honesty shop. We had a very nice cooked breakfast, personally delivered by Caroline one morning, which was very tasty. The honesty shop is well stocked with essentials, plus local goodies too. The freezer has local ice cream, include dog ice cream. Located just off a quite road, access is easy, providing you follow the comprehensive instructions that Caroline provides - you really do not want to go anywhere near the Wrynose Pass when towing, but is well worth a drive through. The west side of the Lakes is quieter and better for it. We visited some of the lesser known lakes and enjoyed quiet lakeside walks with the dogs. When we next visit the Lakes this site will be top of our list.

Just wonderful, you must come here!

What can I say, the reviews are right!! What an absolutely lovely CL with the most amazing owner, Caroline. She bought us a really yummy hot cooked breakfast to our door on a very chilly Sunday morning. Delicious! Fantastic honesty shed with ice cream, eggs, essentials & more importantly the menu for Caroline’s food! You must come here. It’s on the western edge of the lakes, Wastwater is within reach as is Scafell. Then conversely the beach is ten minutes away, so best of both worlds! It’s worth the drive round as it has amazing views of mountains & sea. We came from the south, staying on the A roads and it’s no problem at all. Come via Gosforth (excellent pub, shop and free parking). The CL itself is very spacious with lovely level pitches. It’s quiet with horses in the paddocks. The shower and toilet are spotlessly clean. There are good recycling and toilet waste facilities. Seriously I couldn’t fault it. Caroline is incredibly welcoming with lots of tips and info on the surrounding area, Do come. You won’t regret it!!

We cannot fault anything about this site

Holmside
What a fabulous site that we heartily recommend!! The owner was so nice and welcoming when we arrived. The toilet and shower were spotless and modern. The pitches were all hardstanding and well spaced out. There was plenty of room for a caravan or motorhome, awning and car. Caroline is happy to cook for her guests and provides a menu with prices in the information room. We had a full English breakfast of bacon, sausages , egg, hash brown, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding and toast for £8 each. She brings the food hot to your van. We also had the meat and potato pie one evening and made the mistake of ordering the apple pie the same night which we were too full to eat but it made a wonderful pudding the next day, so be warned the pies are huge!! Thank you so much Caroline for making our holiday such a happy one. We will certainly be back.
