8 Nights in March at Topley Head Farm

Topley Head Farm
Very glad we stayed here. Fantastic view over the Peak District limestone plateau. Pitches reasonably spaced and in a row so everyone gets a clear view. You turn into the farm drive from the A6, but the farm location and length of the drive means you cannot hear the road. Very peaceful. Friendly welcome - allowed me to park the car near a barn away from the pitch so that the car wasn't in our view. The fence on the other side of the access track from the pitches has been remade. The hardstanding was wide enough to comfortably accommodate both the caravan and the porch awning. Hardstandings getting slightly overgrown but that didn't detract from their effectiveness and in wet weather the rain soaked away well. It was a wet March (is there any other kind?) and the access track was pretty muddy and the ground under the grass was very soft, so it was boots or wellies if we wanted to stray beyond our pitch, even to go to the water tap or waste disposal. The access track is also fairly narrow which meant it wasn't possible to park the caravan and to tow it away when leaving without going onto the grass which churned it up because the ground is soft. The track is my only criticism. We would certainly stay again, though hopefully in a spell of dry weather!

Hardstanding? Take care when wet and accessing water point

Topley Head Farm
Positives first - brilliant setting, just off the A6 East of Buxton and very close to the western end of the Monsal Trail. Far enough away from the road so little noise from traffic, and lovely views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Negatives - billed as hardstanding (which is why we chose to stay what with the wet weather over the last couple of months), but seemingly not being maintained. Grass growing over the stone, and only relatively thin bit of hardstanding to drive in and between the pitches. The water point (only the one) was at the far end of the site, and both us and the other motorhome present almost got stuck in soft ground reversing back out from in front of the water point. The fence separating the site from the adjacent field was in need of repair as 2 sheep were able to jump over / through it. Summed the site up I'm afraid, potentially a wonderful site but in need of maintenance / upkeep.

Great site with amazing views

Topley Head Farm
A lovely little site with everything you need. It was really easy to find being on the main road but the site itself is well away from the road so it is really quiet and private. The views were absolutely amazing and it was very peaceful. The location was perfect for exploring the area. We loved it and will definitely be back.

Lovely peaceful relaxed location

Topley Head Farm
The site is fairly basic but has EHU per pitch, water, grey water disposal and Elsan point. The views are stunning. It's a working farm with livestock but that just adds to the rural atmosphere. Wasnt sure about payment after setting up but a wander around to the farmhouse and if no one in there is a box to post cash. The grass is mowed but a little long. Lovely location in the Peak District with the views to go with it. Would definitely go again.

All good.

Topley Head Farm
Difficult to add to what has previously been said by others, certainly can't take away from them. Nice queit little CL, and recommended. 5 x hardstandings, almost level, each with EHU. The CL is fenced off from the sheeps, who wander freely about on the other side of the CL gate. A cattle grid keeps them off the road, which leads me to my only word of caution. The farm entrance unfortunately is situated on a sweeping blind bend of the main road, so exiting the farm with any slow/towing vehicle can be a bit perilous. We nearly got taken out by one of the very many quarry lorries that was thundering back down the hill empty. Far too fast for the road layout and type of vehicle. Muppet. This is of course not the fault of the CL owners, and is clearly far beyond their control.
