Ease of arrival/welcome

Disappointingly overbooked.

We booked a 5 night stay by phone, and although we called the day before we due to travel in order to confirm our time of arrival, at no time were we warned that they were fully booked and we would have to stay outside of the official CL site. When we arrived there were five units already on the field and although the owner was very polite, he said that he was unable to help us as the other people were already there. He suggested that we could stay for a few days on one of the additional hard standing pitches that they have and then move on to an official pitch once other people left. These pitches are right next to the farm driveway, with all of the farm machinery parked directly behind in the yard/machinery shed. There was a flock of sheep loose in that part of the farm, who were coming right up to the car and the caravan which would have made life very difficult for us as we were travelling with our dog. It looks like a lovely site, but when booking it would be a good idea to make sure that they have not booked more than five units at a time. We would recommend asking to be in the field if you are travelling with dogs, or if you want a peaceful pitch and prefer not to be right next to the driveway and all of the farm machinery.

Great views, easy to find

The site is basic with five pitches in a small field backing onto the main farm. Each pitch had it's own EHU point with the drinking water point at the lower end of the site. The hardstanding pitches were reasonably flat although small ramps may be needed. We only met someone from the farm on the first night when we went to pay although often saw someone at a distance, As it was lambing time they seemed fully occupied. The views from the site are fantastic and the small field in front of the site had recent mothers and their lambs running around. The site was a perfect place for seeing that area of Derbyshire with Ashbourne, Bakewell and Buxton all close by.

Great Views

Great place for a visit to the Monsal trail, or if you're a caravanner, visiting Buxton, Bakewell etc. Facilities are basic, but good hard standings with hook ups. Very close to the A6, but very little traffic noise. Farm animals can be a bit noisy, but it is a farm. We chose the pitch on the edge of the site so we could get the satellite dish pointing in the right direction. About a mile to the Church Inn at Chelwood, which had good beers, and a reasonable menu. The Anglers Rest in Millers Dale is about half an hour by bike, and well worth a visit.

Simple site with fantastic views

This site is simple but was just what we needed. We liked being left to ourselves but found the farmer very friendly and welcoming when our children asked to visit the cows. Quite exposed so beware of strong winds but great views over the dales. Good access to Buxton, walks from site to cheedale and miller's dale.
