Disappointing

Fosfelle Country House
Booked here in mid-September for seven nights and stayed one. Site was overbooked and we had to pitch on a piece of rough ground at the top of the site. We looked at the pitches and found them small and ill kept. No room for caravan, awning and car. Facilities in pods musty and unclean. No soap or hand towels etc. Animals on site unhygienic as we saw donkey licking the water tap where we had just filled our water carrier. Would I recommend this site no.

A real gem of a place

Fosfelle Country House
We stayed here for 4 nights in our caravan. We truly had a great time. The donkeys are so friendly. They do love the attention.😊 The Alpaca's are a little shy, but they began to trust us. Not aggressive in anyway. The owners are also very friendly and welcoming, they advised us on some great places to visit and eat out. One thing I really enjoyed was how clear the night sky here was. As there is hardly any light pollution. Listening to the call of the Tawny Owls was just amazing. In the day we had the sound of Woodpeckers. We'll definitely be coming back. Thank you ever so much for a great welcome.

Great weeks stay

Fosfelle Country House
Stayed here for a week in the second week of July and despite some wet weather had a lovely time. We were met by John when we arrived and he showed us the available pitches and left us to set up.The pitches are a little on the small side and arranged in a line which is not our preferred layout but the location close to the Hartland peninsular was the reason we chose the site. The toilet and shower pods are cute and functional you will need to purchase tokens for the showers these cost £1 and give you 6 mins of shower time my wife and I perfected the 3min shower :-). We had an issue with the toilet paper running out but following an email, this was sorted very quickly we also asked for a mop and this was also supplied. Unlike some previous reviews, we didn't encounter any of the mud issues although we had a lot of heavy rain throughout our stay. The Donkeys and Alpacas were fun to watch and would come right up to the caravans obviously hoping for some food. There are masses of walks from the site with access to the coastal path from Harland Quay. The walk into the village of Hartland is about a 20 min walk but expect it to take longer on the way back as it is all uphill. We took a walk along the coast path into Clovelly this turned out to be a 14-mile round walk so not for the faint-hearted but it was a lovely walk nonetheless. All in all a lovely site that we would have no hesitation in recommending.

Far From The Madding Crowds

Fosfelle Country House
This site offers a very peaceful and relaxing experience, which it delivers easily. We cannot remember the last time we were so relaxed and refreshed by a 3-night stay. The facilities are simple, but in very good condition and we had no complaints. There is a hot tub on site which is ideal for relaxing after a long day walking on the peninsula or climbing the streets of Clovelly! The location close to Hartland is very helpful but be prepared to walk up a few steep slopes on your way to the bus stop and on the way back to Fosfelle (regular services to Clovelly, Bideford, and Bude). The village itself is very welcoming, with a lovely coffee shop and several pubs that offer very good food. Our hosts were very helpful and made everything very easy for us during our stay. The donkeys and alpacas also share the CL and provide a friendly welcome when you get back to your caravan or motorhome! We will certainly keep this site on our list of favourites when we plan our next trip to North Devon.

Good location but some room for improvement.

Fosfelle Country House
Good location for access to the Hartland Peninsula, and very sheltered sites which was good as it was windy during my three night stay (price now actually £24 pn). Pitches are hard standing but relatively small - access to EHU up a few steps behind and water close by. Unfortunately electric tripped out several times during the stay. Also cottages to rent in a different area which might be useful if you have friends without vans. Usual 5 pitches on site. Also what appeared to be a semi permanent campervan - plus they have a static caravan, double decker bus, and large coach they rent out within the same field. Donkeys and alpacas are free range during the day which means the whole of the grassed area around the pitches is churned up and very muddy including access to the water and steps to the EHU. Toilet and shower pods are a good idea but as previous poster the shower was, at best, tepid and no cleaning implements, shower pod very musty smelling.
