A relaxing stay

We visited this site with friends and were surprised about the previous negative reviews. Reception was closed when we arrived so we phoned and were told to make ourselves at home which we did and pay later when it opened. When we met the owners they were very helpful. We both had motorhomes and found the pitches were fine and the toilet was clean. The alpacas were inquisitive but kept their distance and kept our dogs amused. We would both certainly return in the future. We were an adult only party.

Could be so much better

Visited this site spontaneously. Arrived, booked in, told restaurant was closed. Drove to pitch. En route passed overflowing rubbish and recycling bins, then an old broken down double decker bus with what looked like old parts on the ground beside it, then a static caravan with lots of things that might be handy one day scattered around it, then some unfinished earth works and then to the pitches cut into a bank. The site is in a hollow surrounded by trees so restricted views. Five alpacas and a few ducks wandered freely through the site, unfortunately leaving their waste liberally sprinkled everywhere. ( dog owners and parents with young children please note) Shower and toilet clean and well equipped but only one of each for 5 pitches...tokens required. Site was quiet and well placed for local sites

most disappointed

No one in reception on arrival. Pitched and eventually raised someone in reception who seemed annoyed at having to deal with us. Wife had shower but no hot water. I reported this and reception seemed put out at having to deal with problem. Supposedly fixed but when I tried to use it the token failed to work at all. Cancelled our meal at 'restaurant' and was brusquely 'dismissed' since people arrived to occupy cottage! I found the 'owner'/'staff' most discourteous and unhelpful and would never recommend this site.

BE VERY AWARE IF YOU USE THIS SITE

The McArdles asked for £100 deposit by phone to reserve a pitch for two weeks. Due to health problems and medical appointments I had to cancel the pitch giving 18 days notice. It took 10 days of numerous phone calls and e-mail to get any communication from them at all. I was eventually informed that I needed to give 4 weeks notice to get any deposit back. They have kept all of my money. BE VERY AWARE IF YOU USE THIS SITE

Could do better

Pluses: it is well sheltered and the free range alpacas were cute (though didn't see any other animals mentioned.). The staff were friendly when they could be found. If the site had been described as a basic CL I would have rated it more highly, but it didn't live up to it's description. The restaurant/bar was closed (another visitor said this was because the chef left after being refused a pay rise) therefore no games and no wifi. The caravans were squeezed in a small area of a large site, the shower was £1 a time (if you could find somebody to sell the tokens), the hot tub spa was distant from the caravans and the person we asked about it seemed surprised when we asked where it was, and had to call back to say it was £5 to use it. The pitches are cut into a steep bank which gives limited manouvering space to back a caravan in, especially pitch 1.
