I have known Welcombe for decades but this is my first proper visit in many years. Leddon Farm is run by one of Welcombe's oldest families and so you can expect - and will get - a traditional warm welcome and an unintrusive stay. Elaine Cornish is very friendly and helpful (if you need her) - letting get on with your stay in peace.
As one of the other reviewers has said, facilities are basic. But, for those of us who come here, this is exactly what we want: superb high-pressured water, toilet emptying point, and a place for rubbish. The field itself is very spacious, peaceful and wonderfully relaxed. It is a bargain at £6.00 a night.
Leddon Farm is a busy working Farm, but this does not intrude. The site is across a country lane from the Farm and has incredible & big views of the rolling North Devon countryside and looks west towards one of Devon's most spectacular beaches, Welcombe Mouth - which is an easy walk from the site - especially if you walk home via Sandy Lane, which takes you straight pass the Old Smithy Inn, which has very convenient opening hours, well priced local beers and great food. From the site, it is a stone's throw away. There is a community shop and post office in the village - although a little way from the hamlet itself.
The site is dog friendly with has walks galore.
Welcombe is the real North Devon to me & Leddon Farm, thanks to the Cornishes, is the Welcombe of my childhood; I cannot recommend it high enough.
Great views, Great spot, Great price. This is what all CL's should be like. Basic facilities but with stunning views, super walks to coastal path & surrounding countryside from site, local thatched pub just around the corner & friendly owners - all this for just £5 a night, MAGIC ! Thank you
This site is a wonderful little gem.
Elaine is a lovely owner, very helpful and friendly and once you have been welcomed you are left alone to enjoy your stay.
This is a busy working farm so you do get some noise from the tractors but this does't spoil the peace and tranquility of the setting. The site overlooks a valley and the views are stunning, with Lundy in the distance on clear days.
The Old Smithy Inn is two minutes walk around the corner, although we haven't been in, we've heard many good things about the food.
For walkers this site is a dream being only a short walk from the coast path and Welcombes little beach. Just behind the farm house is a lovely big woodland with so many different walks that we haven't managed to explore them all. Not to mention there are many different walks around Welcombe through and around farmland. Fantastic for dog walking.
This site is one of our favourites that we like to revisit often.
This is an utterly basic CL, providing only what is required. However we really enjoyed our week's stay at Leddon Farm overlooking a valley with Lundy in the distance.
The area is great for walking and wildlife. The Hartland peninsula is often bypassed on the way to the well known resorts further south, but we find it charming with its stunning coast line and wooded valleys.
Leddon Farm is less than five minutes walk from the Old Smithy PH (which you pass just before arriving at the CL. The Old Smithy is a free house and the land lord has created a unique venue with a varied pub food menu and a variety of beers on tap, including a couple of local ones. It is well worth a visit. It even has free WiFi which is useful as the data signal in the area comes and goes with the wind!
Overall stunning value for £5 per night, even if it is just for the views.
