The beautiful county town of Dorset, Dorchester is a great destination for those who enjoy spending time outdoors and learning about history.

The town market was founded in 1860, and it's one of the biggest local markets the area. The main market is held on Wednesdays, and there's also a regular a Sunday car boot sale.

If you want to explore the area on foot, the Roman Town Walk is a great choice. There's also nearby Maiden Castle, which is England's largest hillfort. Covering 45 acres, it was first occupied around 3000 BC.

Other highlights include the pretty Borough Gardens, and the statue of Victorian author Thomas Hardy, who spent much of his life in the local area.
