Why stay here ...

The Boxted CL site is a family run site set in 5 acres of land. The caravan site itself is approximately 0.5 acres. The site is run by Ties and Kate and we have two horses (Checky and Thomas and several chickens.

Boxed is a village located approximately 4 miles north of Colchester, North East Essex, very close to the Suffolk border.  The village is surrounded by farmland. The River Stour flows through the village, providing the boundary between Essex and Suffolk. Old Boxted falls within Dedham Vale, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. See the village Website for further details.

Close to the site is Dedham Vale Vineyard, which hosts regular events throughout the summer, and wine tasting tours. Booking in advance is essential for tours.

The site is within easy access from the A12, which provides links to London, Suffolk and Norfolk. We are also 2.7 miles from Colchester Park and Ride which offers quick access into Colchester Town Centre.

Opposite the site is McLaughlin's Fruit Farm which offers fruit picking in the summer months, and fresh local produce, including vegetables and eggs. Also in close proximity is Fillpotts Garden Centre, which has a cafe, and also sells local produce.

Within easy reach are the Essex coastline such as Mersea Island, Walton and Frinton beaches, and Southend on Sea.

Other local places of interest include: Colchester Town (which has a lot of Roman history), Beth Chatto Gardens, Dedham and Flatford (Constable country), Colchester Stadium, Colchester Zoo, Layer Marney Tower, Colchester Arts Centre, the Mercury Theatre, and Colchester Park and Castle.

The site itself provides 5 pitches on well maintained grass with electrical hook ups. Upon entry to the site, there is a padlocked gate straight ahead which leads to the caravan field. The combination for the padlock is changed regularly and will be provided upon booking. The site is open all year round and the grass is flat and rains well.

There is a shower block with two cubicles, each with shower, toilet and basin. The shower is operated by a coin meter and is £1 for 10 minutes, thought additional coins can be used if you require longer. The coin meter takes £1 coins and 20p coins. There is also recycling facilities and a chemical emptying point.

In the shower building is an information point with local maps and leaflets for local businesses/ideas for days/vouchers out etc.

Dogs are welcome on the site. There are some lovely walking routes straight from the site through farmer's fields and via country lanes/tracks.

The entrance to the site can be a tight turn, especially when coming from the Boxted Village, though access from the A12 will usually bring you from the other direction, turning right into the site, which is advisable.

Price includes electrical hook-up.

We strongly recommend that you visit our Facebook page for regular updates and photos.

Perfect location for a exploring Historic Colchester & Constable Country

Boxted CL
This CL is beautifully kept, facilities (2 toilets and showers) kept clean and the owners such lovely people. With Alpacas & horses in the paddock behind and an enormous dog exercising field too, it feels like your far out in the country, but in fact your very close to exploring Britains oldest recorded city, Suffolks Constable country or impressive Colchester Zoo. With a very good garden centre and full restaurant opposite the CL, this location is excellent. We’ve already stayed here a couple of times and have booked to come back again.

Country lanes and lazy days

Boxted CL
Stayed 6 nights, had a great time. Easy to find, entrance is narrow but we managed with no issues with big twin axle. Site is a lovely short cut field set back from the road with trees and hedge for summer sun shelter. It was really easy to pitch as it's fairly level. Road noise was not an issue and it was really quiet at night. EHU & recycling, chemical disposal is a manhole but fine for these small sites. What some small campervans might really like is the 2x shower/loo cubicles, very clean and nice, use of the hot shower is charged via a coin meter. The highlight was the Alpaca's in the ajoining field so cute and peaceful to just sit and watch. Location is great for visit to Colchester and some lovely country bike rides.

Fab cl with very welcoming owners

Boxted CL
Have stayed here a few times and can’t fault it. Owners couldn’t be any friendlier and helpful. Lovely surroundings and walks from the site made even better by now having access to pathways through owners fields so avoiding walking our dogs on the main road and site includes a dog exercising area. Campsite is well kept and has very clean showers and toilets. This site is very close to us so therefore is a fabulous bolt hole for me when I’ve finished work on a Friday to get away for a few nights. Close to lots of interesting places to visit if you’re visiting this area. Paul and I highly recommend this cl, pay a visit you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent site

Boxted CL
This is an extremely attractive and well-kept site. Great for dog-walking. Really useful and well-written email from the owners on booking. Worth checking out the site's website and Facebook page too. PS. Beautiful alpacas 🤭
