Unsuitable CL site for motorhomes or caravans

Forest Lodge
The site is accessed down a long narrow path that runs along the owner's property. The access route was severely overgrown by tall trees and caused damage to our motorhome from scratch marks from branches and holly that were left unchecked. The access is very narrow, so once you start down the path you can not safely reverse. On arriving at the camping area, we found a non level area that was quite waterlogged as the grass had not been maintained. We parked on the only non grass area. There is a water tap and the bin was overflowing. We were the only visitors along with friends, who actually had worse damage to their motorhome than us. Attempts to contact the owner for fear of returning down the path the next day as planned, went unanswered. So we had to leave and cause further damage to the motorhomes on the other side. Warning: This site is totally unfit for a motorhome or caravan. It may well be good for small campervans or tents but not anything else. We stay in a lot of CL's and never had an issue before, but I am still at a loss to understand how this ever got approved as a CL site.

Quiet site

Forest Lodge

Eventually found the site which is almost opposite the Southampton Scientific centre. The Caravan club sign is high up on a tree. The narrow lane leading down to the actual field, is a bit steep & bumpy. However, we had a quiet evening caravanning the old fashion way using our gas & battery. In the morning we had a bit of difficulty leaving the site even with our 4x4 landcruiser, but the owner did inform us afterwards that we had pitched near the swamp area which we were unaware of. Would stay there again if we were heading West and needed another one night stop over or were looking for a quiet weekend going back to basics. There is motorway noise but it's more of a background white noise which didn't bother us.

Shocking July/August 2015

Forest Lodge
We stayed on this site for 2 nights, the night before our ferry to IOW and the night on returning. The first night my fully up to date sat nav took us to the end of the country lane where we had no choice but to unhitch to turn around. The sign for the site was half way up a tree and covered with Ivy - not helpful! Went down the tight and bumpy access lane after ringing and being told the owner would meet us down there. After 20 minutes nervous wait I had to ring again as I was concerned I could be in someone's back garden. We returned for the 2nd night only because we pre-paid it. Upon leaving from our second night my car struggled up the steep grass bank as there is only one hard standing pitch, the owner could see me struggling to get off the grass and didn't even ask if I was ok. Glad I have stayed on other sites and know that this is not the norm - will never stay here again and would urge others to look for other options. Nightmare to get to and unwelcoming.

Disappointing

Forest Lodge
We needed a site for a one night stopover before catching a ferry. The gate to the lane into the site is signed but quite faded. The lane has trees on either side that meet above and they do touch the caravan as you pass, the lane is very bumpy and has a steep end to it. There is one very uneven ruble hardstanding which we took. A small campervan which came in after us had to tuck in next to us, as the grass area was very damp with no real indication where to pitch. The site is in a woded glade which could be made so much better. There is motorway noise but then you are close to two motorways. We would not return to this site.

Peace and Quiet

Forest Lodge
We were put off by previous reviews but went ahead and booked as we were on our way to the Ferry - it turned out to be a beautiful, peaceful place. The owners were away but they trusted us to put the pitch money through their letterbox.
