Why stay here ...

To be found at the end of Therfield Heath (SSSI), Thrift Farm is part of an arable/ livestock farm near the historic town of Royston. On one side, the site offers extensive views over Cambridgeshire and on the other, rolling, sometimes wooded views of the Hertfordshire countryside.

Each spacious grass pitch offers 16 amp EHU, drinking water connection and grey water drain.

The attractive 1 acre site is suitable for dogs and is within 5 minutes drive from M and S/Aldi, and Tesco Express (with car charging facilities).

The site sits on a network of public footpaths. Scenic walks take you along the Heath to the Heath Cafe, or to the picturesque villages of Therfield and Kelshall (and beyond). The Fox and Duck in Therfield offers great food.

Bordering Essex, Cambs and Beds, north Herts is dotted with pretty villages and historic churches. The site is well connected (A1(M), M11 and A14). A regular train service takes you in the directions of either London or Cambridge. Hitchin, Saffron Walden or Cambridge are easy drives away.

A beautiful spot with superb views all around.

Thrift Farm
What a beautiful spot. Absolutely stunning views, the photos don't do the views justice really and there were 3 gorgeous horses in the fields next door which we a delight to watch. We had amazing weather while we were here too. Facilities to each pitch which was fab. We didn't see the owners but communication was good before the visit and we didn't need to see the owners to be fair, we had contact numbers should we need them. Turning into the site from the Royston direction was good, going back you need to cross a dual carriageway as the next roundabout is 6 miles away but we did manage without incident (we were a bit worried about it as its a national speed limit road). You can hear the road just a little and the train as it passes but we liked seeing the train (not close by, the other side of the dual carriageway) and there was no way you could call it noisy or a disturbance. The site is away from the road. The walk to Therfield to the pub is a lovely one, quite uphill on the way there.... but downhill all the way back. :)

Lovely and peaceful site

Thrift Farm
We needed a quiet, rural camper van site in proximity to Duxford Air Museum and Thrift Farm fitted the bill nicely. Arrived in beautiful weather in contrast to the Pennine cloud and rain we'd left four hours earlier! Immediately after arriving we took a country walk with the dog to the beautiful village of Therfield for a drink at the excellent Fox and Duck pub. When we got back we were greeted by Frances who made us feel very welcome and even brought us a bottle of her delicious home made squash. The field is well drained, the level pitch size large and the location both quiet and beautiful. I was glad we'd booked two nights at Thrift Farm as it was a great place to unwind after a full day at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford – around a 25 minute drive away. Thank you Frances for your kind hospitality – I'm sure we'll be back again...

An amazing site

Thrift Farm
Booked last minute for the August bank holiday weekend and boy am I glad Thrift farm had availability. This is one of the best CL's I have had the pleasure of staying on to date. Access off of the A505 was easy although, depending on which way you come, I would suggest you go up to the roundabout rather than try to cut across the road as it can get very busy. The easy to follow instructions on how to find the pitches were spot on. You get taken through the farm yard, which considering this is a working farm it is immaculately kept. The field with the pitches was well kept, with the grass short and drainage must be brilliant because although it rained while we were there, it didn't get muddy. The pitch itself was relatively flat, with very little needed to get the van level. Like most CL's you just have the basics, but Thrift Farm takes this to another level. Everything you need is to hand, EHU, water and grey waste drain on each pitch with chemical disposal and refuse bins easily accessible. All of the pitches were occupied, but you didn't feel like you were on top of each other. Frances was cheerful and helpful, giving us a map of the footpaths that are accessible from the site, fantastic if you have dogs, my 2 loved it. We didn't explore the local area, except to find the supermarket, which was under 10 minutes away so I cant comment on the locality. We went to just relax and unwind, which is very easy to do on this site. Very little road noise, so peace and quiet in spades. I would highly recommend this site if you need a base while visiting around the local area, or if you just want to escape the hustle and bustle and just chill in peace around your van. We loved it so much, we've already booked to go back, and as it isn't too far from where will live, will probably make this our go to site to unwind and forget about the stresses life throws at us. Thank you once again Frances, we loved our stay in your lovely site and will see you again next season. Andy and family

Great Site

Thrift Farm
We chose this site as it is close to family in the area and will definitely now use it as our go to site when we visit Hertfordshire. As we used to live in the area we didn’t visit any tourist attractions but the site is in easy reach of NT sites and Duxford ect. Fantastic site fully serviced grass pitches with plenty of room around the pitch for Awning and vehicles. Our pitching was great and didn’t need blocks but further up the site it slopes slightly. You will be entertained with the beautiful site of Kites 🦅 up in the sky above the caravan If you like walking this is great place to walk from and a sheet is provided of local walks and M&S, Aldi and Tesco are within a short drive. You won’t be disappointed a beautiful site it also has a security gate with access code

One of the best CLs on the network

Thrift Farm
We booked this site for a last-minute break and were not disappointed. Thrift farm is easily located off the A505 on its own lane and down through an electric gate. Just press the button and the owner, Frances, will come and greet you. Frances is friendly, welcoming and informative. The CL is reached through the very well kept farmyard and some way off the road so if peace and quiet is your thing (as it is ours), then this is for you. The CL field entrance has double gates so no issues regarding outfit size. Each pitch has fresh water, grey water drainage and EHU. The black waste point is very well maintained and located by the field entrance as are the general and recycling bins. The field is very gently sloping so some pitches will require a levelling block. The views from each pitch are fantastic and include sheep, lambs, horses, red kites etc. The field is large and well maintained. We have been caravanners since 1988 and this is one of the best CLs we have visited and we only do CLs. Lovely place, lovely people, We can't wait to go again.
