A very pleasant stay

Having been caravanning for 3 years this was our first time on a CL site, and was a late booking. The directions were good and the site easy to access. The field was well mown and slightly sloping but nothing that a block couldn’t sort. To the rear was an ugly burnt out building which is a bit off putting, but this is the gin distillery which had had a fire a few weeks previously and will be re furbished in future. Although the pleasant view across the field is all you can see from the van. The toilet and shower are clean, although a separate toilet would be better, there were only 3 vans on site and when one person was having a leisurely shower at the same time as most peoples morning ablution time there was a long wait! There were plenty of footpaths within easy reach of the site and good dog walking, also a 15 min walk into Bedale. The bridge beer cafe is worth a visit, a great selection of beers and gins and good home cooked food and yummy cakes. There is so much on offer in the area that we will definitely be coming here again. The owner was pleasant and apart from calling in the eve to collect the money and explain what was what was not intrusive at all.

Review of Long Garth

We stopped here overnight, on our way north to Berwick Seaview club site, we found site easily & pitched before we met owners, as they work all day. The town is about 10-15 mins walk & is a lovely market town that has everything you should want. Met & paid the owners in the evening & they were very nice, helpful & easy going. We will definitely stop here again.

1st Visit to a CL

For our 3rd trip as novices my wife and I wanted to stay in the Bedale area as it is one of our favourite market towns. After looking at various sites I chose Long Garth, which is our first experience of a CL. I felt at ease speaking to the owner on the phone and was advised 'turn up any time you like'. The owners are at work during the day so on arrival you just select a pitch of your choice. The field slopes gently towards the bottom, where the infrequent Wensleydale Railway service ambles slowly by. There is a petrol station with a very good sized Spar shop next door which can supply all your needs. The car showroom shown on the photos has now closed and the buildings are in multi use. Walking into Bedale takes about 20 minutes (0.7 mile) and the road is no longer very busy as there is now a new jct off the A1 meaning most traffic does not pass the site. There are also a couple of footpaths/bridleways into Bedale. Northallerton, Thirsk, Masham and Leyburn are all within about 10 miles and are all worth a visit. Bedale itself is a lovely little place with several pubs and good local shops. The toilet and shower are in an old shipping container and are quite adequate if not modern. It is after all a CL and not a 5* hotel. For £15 a night including electric hook up we thought it was great value and a very peaceful site. We will definitely be paying a return visit.

Excellent Stop Over

We used this site as a stop over given its location from the A1, just 1.5 miles away. Spacious field. An excellent information room was provided along with a toilet and shower. As we only stopped over 1 night we are not really able to judge the access to local places of interest.

A lovely site.

We found the site very easy to find. A lovely spacious field, with plenty of room between units. It was a lovely peacefull area and the car workshop didn't bother us to much! The shower and WC was clean and always had hot water. We found a public bridleway into the village, which is directly opposite the driveway of the site, which was a relief as the road is terribly busy and the path very narrow at times! I cant fault the site, our only issue is the lack of public footpaths in the local area as we are enthusiastic walkers, and had to travel to find a good walk!
