Why stay here ...

Colburn Grange Farm CL is a small, friendly, family run site. It is situated on the edge of the magnificent Yorkshire Dales National Park and Catterick Garrison, with the coast to coast walk passing close by. Just a short drive away is the picturesque historic market town of Richmond, which is home to our very own Norman castle that looks over the River Swale and waterfall. The large cobbled market place is surrounded by Georgian architecture, you can also find Britain’s most complete Georgian playhouse, with productions to suit every taste.

Within walking distance (approximately 1.5 miles away), Catterick Garrison camp centre has recently undergone redevelopment to provide a small retail complex with numerous shops, eating establishments and multi-screen cinema, a leisure centre and swimming pool. Adjacent to this you will find a Tescos Superstore. There are also some shops and cafes within a 10 minute walk in either direction and an Aldi and Lidl close by, something for everyone. To enjoy a local pub meal, a short walk through our fields will bring you to the The Hildyard Arms.

Other local attractions include two golf clubs, horse riding, Easby Abbey, galleries housing local artists work, numerous pubs, cafes, restaurants and take aways. “The Station” in Richmond also has a micro-brewery, artisan bakery, ice-cream parlour, cinema and restaurant. To help you reach these attractions, a bus route passes our road end.

Colburn Grange Farm is a small working farm, for this reason dogs need to be kept on a lead and children need to be supervised at all times. The CL site pitches are found within a well maintained, sheltered orchard of approximately 0.33 acre. The site offers 16 Amp electric hook-up, water, WC disposal point, refuse, recycling, toilet and separate shower room, which has a small charge each time it is used. There is also an onsite shop which sells eggs, as well as potatoes for part of the year.

We look forward to welcoming you and hope you enjoy your stay.

Spoilt by too many units

Colburn Grange Farm

What started out well was spoilt by ‘extra’ units being allowed to pitch. The information said 5, 7 were squashed in and another four just over the fence on the farm. We visited the bathroom once and then used our own as it was basically an outside toilet used by the farm and livery stable clients as well as the CL. To be fair the information did say ‘not exclusive use’. The location is excellent and until ‘extra’ units came we had a lovely view. It’s ideal for touring the dales, we found lovely dog friendly pub grub. The Farmers Arms was excellent. Also a plethora of fast food outlets in the Garrison. Lidl is within walking distance. There is some traffic noise during the day but fairly quiet after 10pm.

Comment from the Club

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. There is a small commercial campsite on the land which is not part of the CL and there were caravans and motorhomes staying here. We have confirmed with the owner that the CL area can only ever have five pitches.

A lovely and convenient site

Colburn Grange Farm
This site is only half an hour from our home but we wanted to try out our new caravan and awning so it was perfect. Very easy to find from the A1M and easy to access. A lovely friendly welcome from the owner, we were directed into the enclosed orchard which was immaculate, spacious and plenty of room for our car and awning. Views of the horses in the field and the distant hills were great. Easy to access waste points and water, and we were provided with lots of useful info about the area. Toilet and shower facilities were basic but adequate, we used our own facilities anyway. The site is on a working farm off the main road into Catterick which is extremely busy. There is some road noise during the day but much quieter at night. Overall a very nice site and we would stay again.

Lovely quiet site with very friendly owner.

Colburn Grange Farm
We came across this amazing site in August when we where heading down south to join our friends for a week away. We had booked in for just the one night. However the owners where so welcoming we decided to stop off again on our journey back to edinburgh. When we first arrived we needed to go buy a new water pump for our van. Owner jokingly said anyone that goes to buy a part at ropers end up buying a new van. HE WAS SO RIGHT😆. We ended up buying a brant new van A Bailey Jive. We love it. We stayed over here when we came to pick up the new van, and again the owner was great. We are baxk again using the.site as a stop over on our way to North Alerton with our friends. Would certainly recommend this site and will definately use it again. Ian and Diane Reid (Edinburgh) and it is dog friendly.

Convenient for the Dales and Richmond

Colburn Grange Farm
A most welcoming site close to the A1M Motorway and easy to find. We arrived after some heavy unseasonable rain which was a pity as the grass area for the pitches was pristine and maneuvering spoiled the surface somewhat. The site is conveniently situated for a large Tesco and many various fast food outlets, chemists etc. I marked less than 5 for peace and tranquility but only because it is a WORKING farm. The proprietor is most accommodating and approachable. Full of local knowledge (eg. - where to get the best local Pork Pies! :) ). He pulled all the stops out to make it possible for us to extend our stay by a couple of days. We were most grateful. On site, one will find all the "comforts of Camping" like easy access to drinking water, grey disposal and chemical toilet disposal. That said, the toilet facility next to the farm house is perfectly adequate and the wonderfully heated shower room next door is a great find, with plentiful hot water to boot. I have been to bigger sites which lacked the basic comfort of adequate heating in a shower block during unseasonable weather patterns. We will remember our stay at Colburn Grange Farm for many years to come and have no reservations in recommending it. If you can get a space! It appears we are not the only ones who have found this gem on the edge of the Dales. Many of the other campers are returnee's. Book early not to miss out.
