A hidden gem
Old Station House
A three night stopover here on our way back south from Scotland. Depending on which way you approach the site, the entrance is easily missed if approaching from the north. We overshot and the entrance is 750m south of the right hander at Upper Helmsley. The local lane to the bus stop( 0.5m)is a bit of a rat run so watch out for traffic. The pub is a further quarter mile. Hourly buses to York.
A tranquil site with tall trees all round so solar could be a problem outside high summer. Beautiful spot though.
Peaceful CL
Old Station House
Just stayed for four peaceful nights at this lovely CL. We have a solar panel so the lack of mains electricity isn't a problem. The pitching area is enclosed on three sides and there's plenty of room. We were on our own for the full stay so please use it, you won't be disappointed. If you don't want to use your car it's a fifteen minute walk to Gate Helmsley on the bus into York.
A Most Peaceful CL With Wildlife Viewing
Old Station House
This is a most tranquil CL, that is more than reasonably priced and within an easy drive of the P & R for York. It is in a slightly raised position, having views over the surrounding fields and trees. Whilst on the site last year; I awoke one morning to the sight of a roe deer and fawn infront of my camper. Rabbits habitually scamper across the grass and in the night I'd heard an anxious mother tawny owl call, quietly to her miscreant teenaged offspring. I look forward each year to visiting the Old Station Yard CL when my days a filled with Early Music cocerts in York at the festival.
I know there's no hookups but it's well worth a visit and we can all manage without 230V for a day or two. Oh and the Station House garden is a sight to behold.
