The historic walled city of York in North Yorkshire needs little introduction, as thousands of people flock there each year to enjoy both day trips and longer breaks.

York Minster is the first must-see, as it dominates the city's vista, but numerous other highlights will battle for time on your itinerary. These include Jorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum, the Castle Museum, Clifford's Tower, York Dungeons and York's Chocolate Story (leave room for plenty of free samples if you go there!).
Visitors will also be able to enjoy boat trips along the river and shop at both high street names and independent boutiques - there's even an outlet centre on the edge of the city for even more retail therapy.
When it comes to food, there's so much on offer. Try a drink at one of the ancient pubs or a meal at a fine restaurant - either way, you're sure not to be disappointed.
