Why stay here ...

Gayton Marina CL is located in the rolling Northamptonshire arable landscape and surrounded by the rural countryside adjacent to the Grand Union canal.

The site is self-contained to the northern edge of the marina, accessed via its own secure gate and is a perfect location for exploring the local villages and countryside. Alternatively the large market town of Northampton is less than 5 miles away.

Each pitch has electric hook-ups. Waste disposal is available on site. Visitors are welcome to use the marina facilites which include showers and toilets. Access to the marina is via a pedestrian gate.

The marina shop also stocks a range of chemicals and Calor gas.

Won't be returning

Gayton Marina
I only wish I had taken the time to read previous reviews before visiting this site but I think I was too busy focussing on the pictures of the marina - but you cannot see the marina from the site. It is unwelcoming, looks like a car park and not worth £21 per night. When I booked it was advertised as fully serviced which it most definitely isn't. The toilets and showers are shared with the marina, so a bit of a walk and potentially busy (only 2 loos and 1 shower) but very good. It doesn't display the CAMC badge so it's easy to drive by, and if you don't have the gate code which we didn't then you have to go into the marina first. On a plus side, it is easy access to the canal path for cycling and walking

Once only visit

Gayton Marina
On arrival electric gate broken leaving caravan out in live traffic, had to get maintenance guy to open it( was only 3mins). Was told our pitch was 3( on top of roughly spread type 1 stone) not much good for air awning & sons air bed. Had to go to office & try to move onto grass which we did, it is basically waste ground with weeds,I don't think the bricks or broken glass was extra cost, the ground is level near canal Bank then slopes slightly down towards hook up points 10ft from boundary fence it goes very deep slope also drainage channel. Was on full wind down of legs with blocks. Other couple there pointed out gate been broken since yesterday. On day 2 lock for ladies toilet broke so you couldn't access them, maintenance man was trying to open next morning but still not working 2 days later. The road noise is very loud A45,smaller lane from 6.30am till 9pm,rubbish bins are in marina, not water tap on each pitch as advertised. Did not see any marina staff all week, marina grass is perfect site well maintained .Appears as if touring site is an after though to make more revenue. Canal walks are lovely, lots of nice places to visit around area.Shower room( did need floor moping off at times) & toilets where very clean never had to que

An ugly unwelcoming site

Gayton Marina
We were really looking forward to visiting this site being located next to the canal however we were very disappointed on arrival. The site is quite small being half stone chips and half very unkempt grass - it had not seen a mower for several weeks and was very weedy. Road noise from both sides was very intrusive. Access isn’t great with three very narrow hump backed bridges in the way, very difficult to see oncoming vehicles. You cannot access the tow path from the site but need to take your life in your hands by walk-in down the lane to the bridge with no pavement. There is not fresh water on every pitch contrary to the entry on the CAMC app. The toilets and shower are modern and only a short walk away in the marina, but these are shared with the boat owners so could be busy. I don’t think we’ll be rushing back, a shame.

Jiffy the Motorhome

Gayton Marina
The site contacted us before our holiday to inform us of the gate code and our pitch number which was very helpful. Beautifully laid out site. Two pitches are on the canal site and the other three against the fence. Water and waste disposal are on the right of the gates as you enter. Trees and shrubs have been planted for privacy from the road and to also hide the fences. They will be gorgeous when they have a chance to mature. The staff were very helpful on arrival, giving out maps to shops and local pubs. The marina is well set out with a shop, picnic tables, bins, toilets and showers. You have to walk about 120 meters along the road on the right of the gates to connect to the tow path. Most of the traffic beep their horns as they go over the bridge for safety, but the road is quite quiet most times. The A43 runs parallel to the canal, so we found it a little noisy the first evening, but it died down through the night. We never left the site in our Motorhome as there are so many walks and cycle paths to choose from. The canal path towards Northampton is quite wide to cycle on, with plenty of space for walkers too. Northampton has many green areas to visit-Upton Park, Hunsbury Park, Ladywell park and a hidden oasis which the dogs love is Sixfields Reservoir and nature reserve. We googled local bridlepaths for the area and spent a lot of time walking in the beautiful countryside adjacent to th e canal. There is a Premiere shop in the village of Blisworth which is a short walk along the canal to the left, where we stopped for a picnic. If you go right at the canal junction, the next village shop us Nina's; and they also have a fabulous pet shop and takeaway too. So much to do here, but we only had 6 days. Definitely will be back.
