Lovely Scenic CL

Lough House Sweethope
lovely picturesque CL, the owner met us at the house on arrival, £15 cash. the pitches are up a drive right next to the Lake, with a walk all around it. the pitches are hardstanding but were a bit muddy when we were there but lovely views across the lake. the toilets and showers are towards the house on the right. Male and female blocks separate. 2 toilets and 2 showers in each block, heated from a boiler.. Amazing CL and so quiet. Sketchy 4g comes and goes. We will be back

Rather unkempt

Lough House Sweethope
The hardstanding pitches are narrow, slope from side to side and had been allowed to become rather overgrown with grass, weeds and some soil, The grass between pitches was very long with some cowpats. The toilets/ showers are a 3 minute walk along the access track which is a rough track with potholes. We stayed for 2 nights in September 2022 as it was impossible at short notice to find somewhere else in the area with hardstanding pitches. It is a peaceful location which with some maintenance and care would be a little gem.

A perfect hideaway

Lough House Sweethope
We stayed here for 3 days last week and wished so much we could have stayed longer. It is definitely on our list of places to return to. The 5 unit site is tucked away beside fishing lakes and I suppose about 500m from the fishermen’s car park. It was just perfect peace there, even with other units on site. Toilets were kept clean and tidy, however the showers weren’t being used - I presume because of Covid and the fact they were shared between the site and the fishermen. Not a problem for us, the beautiful surroundings more than made up for that.

Back to Nature.

Lough House Sweethope
Just returned home from a 4 day stay on the Sweethope Lough CL over Easter. You can experience any and all types of British weather here - we got sun-burnt on a fantastic walk one day and nearly got snowed in on the last day! Great fun feeding the resident swans too. We have used this CL on a number of occasions over the last 4 years, mainly in the spring and Autumn, as we are told the midgies can be bad over the summer. The views are stunning and the walk around the small lake is heartily recommended. Chris Slack - the fishery manager - is very friendly and easy to chat to. Nearby pubs include the Gun at Ridsdale (6 miles West) and the Bay Horse at West Woodburn (2 miles further) or visit the fleshpots of Bellingham (10 miles West). No real downside that comes to mind but the hard-standings are strangely long and thin making awning use not possible. Oh, and the access track could do with a bit of TLC. We keep on coming back - recommendation enough?

Great for Wildlife

Lough House Sweethope
We have just returned after an 8 day stay at the site. It is found in a beautiful and peaceful location right by the Sweethope Loughs Fishery (fly fishing available on site). The CL manager was very friendly. The site itself is a short walk along the track through the woods from the fishery office where the toilets and showers can be found. The pitches are all hardstanding with individual water taps and ehu and views of the loughs, the woods and fields. There is lots of wildlife watching on site with both grey and red squirrels as well as resident otters. The smaller lough takes about 20 minutes to walk round with the larger taking about an hour. There is a small amount of single track road approaching the site but it isn't busy and there are passing places. Follow the instructions on the listing rather than approaching via the A68 to do less single track towing. Although some days were fine there were a couple of evenings where we were plagued by midges so make sure you have some repellent.
