Newark-on-Trent is a quaint market town in Nottinghamshire and is located on the River Trent.
Many parts of the town date back to Roman times and at the heart was originally Newark Castle. Unfortunately, the castle is now just a ruin but it is worth a visit the remaining structure and the gardens. There are special tours run on a regular basis that explore the site and its creepy dungeons.
History buffs should also make time to explore the National Civil War Centre and Newark Museum in the centre of the town. Opened in 2015, it examines the important role of the town.
For those who prefer current entertainment then the Palace Theatre is a must. Newark’s main venue hosts a busy calendar of events including movies, live music, dance and drama.
