Just found my new favourite CL

Applefield
We booked Applefield as a late weekend get away. Very well kept paddock area looking out across neighbouring meadows. Delightful weekend exploring local area. Evenings spent bbq, birdwatching and listening to the test match, oh and regular visits from a local hare.

The wet weather wasn't our friend

Applefield
We booked two pitches for 4 nights over the Easter weekend for our outfit - a 7m motorhome - and for my sister in law who has a small caravan towed by a 4 by 4. We arrived first. Geraint (the owner) greeted us and showed us where we needed to pitch up. He advised us that the field was quite soggy after the previous night's rain - and to avoid the LHS of the field on driving in. Fortunately we were allocated the first pitch on the RHS of the field. The entrance is tight so I handed over the wheel to my hubby and I proceeded to guide him in - but oh dear - reversing into the pitch our wheels lost traction on the waterlogged grass - and we went nowhere. Geraint and his wife came over and saw our predicament. In the end we had to be towed out by a dumper truck and with the use of big rubber horse mats we eventually got pitched up - keeping the mats under our wheels once in situ. We cannot thank Geraint and Jo enough for their understanding and help. My sister and partner arrived just as we were pitching up and - with ease - they got pitched up next to us. The CL is lovely. Very peaceful and well kept with extremely helpful and friendly owners. The CL further overlooks a paddock which had 6 pregnant ewes in when we arrived. In the end the ewes were brought into the barn - where some had their lambs whilst we were there. Geraint let us see two of the ewes with their lambs on the morning we left. The water and waste points can be easily driven to, and fortunately our expanding hosepipe was long enough for us to be able to take on water from where we were pitched up. The CL is ideally situated for those who like cycling. We enjoyed our cycling and may well return to explore more of the area on our bikes. There are two national cycle routes nearby as well as plenty of quiet lanes. The village boasts two pubs and is within easy cycling distance from the CL. There isn't too much light pollution and had it not been so cold it would have been lovely to sit out at night to look at the stars. We were dreading driving out when leaving, especially as there had been a heavy downpour the day before, and even my sister in law's 4 wheel drive was slipping when we came back from a day out on the Monday, but we need not have worried. Hubby kept the front wheels on the gravelled entrance and he managed to manoeuvre the motorhome with ease. All in all a lovely site in one of our favourite counties.

Rural Suffolk at its best

Applefield
Compact pitches with just enough room for caravan, awning and car so relies relaxing outside relies on having good neighbours - which we did have on our visit. We were asked for payment 2 days before arrival which is not unusual this year. However, we did expect to meet our hosts at some point but sadly the owners didn’t say hello at any time. We were advised of water, waste and recycling by another unit. Good location for cycling, walking however proved more problematic because footpaths across farmland had not been reinstated and we were left wading through fields of ripening oil seed rape! Friendly and welcoming local pub, The Swan, was serving food - the Sunday roast and subsequent evening meal we had were both excellent! I can thoroughly recommend a visit especially as all such establishments have struggled through COVID.

one of the best sites we been on,

Applefield
seen this site for 3 years now when visiting friend next door and kept saying to our selves we should have a stay there, well we finally did and so glad we did, its so nice and quiet here, with horses and sheep in the fields to see, Jo & Gerrant are nice and friendly, we like it so much we have booked in again for a week next month, and maybe hopefully again before they close for the season, grass is nicely cut, with a good selection of trees around, Rhys, Neysa & Lucy

Lovely, quiet CL

Applefield
We're always on the lookout for local haunts for weekend trips, and after deciding last-minute on Friday afternoon to go away for the first weekend in August, we came across this little gem after a couple of previously visited CLs slightly further afield were booked up. And we were so glad we did! The site is literally a 10 minute drive from our house, but we could've been anywhere. The ½ acre meadow is fenced and gated, and offers a lovely view across a further meadow, with sheep-trimmed trees, woodpeckers, and swallows skimming across the grass. Also lovely sunrise views as it appears over the distant trees, and at this time of year at least, sunshine way into the late afternoon/evening. As others have mentioned, the last ½ mile or so is single track road, but ample room for any outfit. Weave your way up the driveway and follow both your nose and the signs, and you will find yourself at the meadow. Access looks a little daunting, but in reality with good positioning there's enough room. Our friends tow with a VW transporter and had no issues getting their large single axle in and out, nor did we with our lengthy single axle. Another couple from much farther afield were finishing up a fortnight's break at the site, and couldn't have been happier with the place. Plenty to explore nearby, lovely walks, local shop and pubs a few minutes drive or 20 minute walk away, and lovely coastline within 40 minutes drive. The owners were both extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating, and we certainly will be back next time we need a quick weekend 'escape' if they can fit us in. Approach from Fressingfield village for the best access.
