Why stay here ...

For members who want to explore Wiltshire, Horse Lane Farm is an ideal CL as it is within easy reach of Bath, Bradford-on-Avon, Marlborough, Avebury, Castle Combe, Stonehenge, Longleat and Shearwater. We have a flat, lawned  area with electrical hookups and plenty of room for awnings.

Horse Lane Farm is about one mile from the Kennet and Avon Canal: this has towpaths which lead to Bradford-on-Avon and Bath to the west or the famous Caen Hill locks to the east – this direction leads to Devizes, our local town. At Easter the famous Devizes to Westminster canoe race starts here.

Horse Lane Farm is situated on the outskirts of Rowde village which boasts two pubs, one shop and an ice-cream parlour. There are also other excellent local pubs where members may eat.

There are plenty of footpaths to walk along, taking members up to the Roundway Hills for instance or along to the canal. There is also a bus service to Devizes or Chippenham.

We are close to Lacock and its famous Abbey where parts of the Harry Potter films were made. Bowood offers a superb day out, especially for the children, and is within easy reach. There are golf courses at Bowood, Devizes and Chippenham.

Many of our caravanners love to go to the Thursday market in our local town of Devizes where most of the leading supermarkets may also be found. (We highly recommend Lee's Fish and Chip shop as well!) Devizes is also a very interesting place to walk around with its historic areas and excellent museum. There are tours around Wadworth brewery where members can sample the beers and meet the heavy horses that pull the drays around the town.

So, whether members wish to visit places or people, go walking or merely relax on site just leaning over a gate watching the cows (remember we are a working farm), then we look forward to offering you a warm welcome at Horse Lane Farm.

Nice site, very well kept

Horse Lane Farm
Nice basic CL, extremely well kept. The grass is cut regularly, and with a grass collector: oh joy! Owners lovely. Electric on card key system. We used a little over £11 over 5 days in heat wave, so mainly FF on overtime. Site is a bit small for our liking when full but its not too bad. Noticeable road noise daytime only. Excellent Indian restaurant walking one direction, fish/seafood specialising "gastro pub" in the other. Biggest issue: lack of reliable mobile or data signal which was quite a problem for us as we needed them.

A pleasant site with helpful owners.

Horse Lane Farm
There is a flat well mown field with plenty of room for each pitch. Electricity is via an easy to use card system, which we think is a fair system. You pay for what you use so if you want to use a heater in your awning which some do then you pay for it. That’s fair. We would return to this CL.

Pleasant and quiet mid-sized CL on working farm

Horse Lane Farm
Just had a very pleasant 5 day. stay here. Excellent spot for accessing the canal for cycling/walking. Despite being a working farm and saw mill, the site is quiet and well sheltered with level lawned field and good practical facilities. The card system for electrics is very good and effective - we were initially a little concerned (see previous review) but no problem at all. We bought two £5 cards on arrival which kept the caravan battery fully charged, ran the fridge/freezer 24/7, charged our e-bike batteries and supplied unlimited hot water for showers etc though our Aldi electric heater system. On leaving we had about 70p left - so no problem!! Thanks for a pleasant stay.

Sorry would not return

Horse Lane Farm
I’m sorry we would not return to this site due to the electric meter key card system. We would have been happy to pay another £5 a night rather than worrying about wether the electric was going to run out as it goes down fast we only had our fridge and lights on it and we were using over £2 -£2.50 a day so every thing else needed to be on the gas. So make sure you have a full cylinder as we spent an afternoon trying to find a refill. Another couple on the site run out of electric in the middle of the night. The other issue is the wood yard next to the site from 8am to 3 pm there is a constant drone of machines cutting and splitting logs. And vehicles parked at the site entrance. Other than that it is a basic site within east reach of many site seeing places and National Trust sites

Excellent site

Horse Lane Farm
Horse Lane Farm A gem of a site, very large, great scenery, beautifully kept. Owner Mr and Mrs C P Collett very friendly and helpful. The electric hook ups are now on a meter key card which can be purchased from the owners. Could not recommend this site high enough. Great location for exploring . Would definitely return if in that area again.
