Why stay here ...

Situated high above Exeter at the top of Haldon Hill, Exeter Racecourse Club Site is attractively surrounded by bright heather and gorse moorland. The location of the caravan park and campsite allows for superb views of the rolling countryside and an unparalleled feeling of space and calm.

For many, the first stop on their visit to the area will be historic Exeter and it's Cathedral Close, found at the very heart of the city. Excursions here offer the opportunity not only to absorb this famously historic site but also to indulge in a little shopping as well as a wide choice of restaurants. Visitors to the Exeter Racecourse Club Site seeking the best views Dartmoor has to offer will be delighted with a stroll up Haytor and Canonteign Falls, the highest in all of England. Also nearby is Haldon Forest Park with a range of walking, cycling and mountain bike trails as well as a Go Ape course for the adventurous. The caravan site also gives you easy access to scenic walks along the River Exe to the Quay. A car boot sale is held down at the racecourse every Sunday, so head down for a weekend bargain.

Even though the site is often used as a quick stop over, many members often enjoy it so much, they extend their bookings and take in the excitement of the stay for longer!

The best in Devon

Exeter Racecourse Caravan Club Site
Was only going to stay a couple of nights and stayed for two weeks. Ideal site for visiting Exeter and the surrounding countryside. Because to the size of my RV, I was placed on some hard standing, which suited me very well. The wardens there are very jolly and certainly go the extra mile to help with any query. I enjoyed it so much there I shall definitely return for a few more weeks. Excellent site.

2 night stay

Exeter Racecourse Caravan Club Site
We stayed her for 2 nights in July, good clean site with helpfull and friendly wardens. Situated nicely of the A38. Good open spaces for dog walking. We did not use the showers or toilet block so can not give a better rating for these facilities.

Good site for for a longer stay

Exeter Racecourse Caravan Club Site
This was our first visit to this site and we had a very pleasant stay. It is very easy to access the site as it is just off the A38, although a sharp turn off at the top of the hill. A lot of people use the site for a quick stop-off but we stayed much longer to visit family and friends in the area. We pitched in the little wooded area which is quieter than the main site with plenty of space. It has two service points and is ideal if you are using your own facilities as it is a very long way from the loo block! We were surprised to find that although the block was clean, and the showers hot, the facilities fall far short of the usual club standard and are badly in need of updating. There is nowhere to put your clothes inside the shower cubicle without them getting wet and also there are no privacy cubicles. It was quite a busy site while we were there and we were surprised to find that it was staffed by only two wardens. It is well kept but a lot of work for them. The site is on the edge of Haldon Forest and is lovely for walking or biking. The Forest Centre is just over a mile away and has bikes for hire, walking trails, activities for children and a cafe and is well worth a visit. It is easy to get to Exeter, Plymouth, Torbay etc on the Devon expressway and other fast roads. There is also a bus, which we didn’t try but there is now a new bus stop in the service area so it is possible to get buses to and from Exeter without going via Chudleigh as mentioned in a previous review. With regard to provisions, there are a selection of large supermarkets in Exeter but we found that there is a well-stocked Co-Op in Chudleigh, which is nearer, also a mini farmers market there on Thursdays and Saturdays. The Londis at the service area is convenient for newspapers etc but pricey. All in all we found this site worth a longer stay and will definitely visit again.

Ok as a stopover

Exeter Racecourse Caravan Club Site
Stayed here for one night only on a last minute booking. The site is a managed one, and facilities are, to be frank, definitely not up to normal CAMC standards. The showers, particularly, are unacceptably poor. The welcome was good however, and the pitches (mostly grass) are roomy. Ok as a short notice stopover, but that’s about it. Wouldn’t consider returning.
