Why stay here ...

Ramslade Club Site is nestled attractively between the River Dart and the coast offering facilities that won't disappoint. The site is ideal for families, with plenty to keep everyone entertained in the local area and a playing field on site. This caravan park affords beautiful hillside views from most of its pitches and is only a mile from Stoke Gabriel, one of Devon's prettiest villages. Crabbing at low tide is an absolute tradition in the area and easy river access to the village makes this an excellent centre for exploring towns along the English Riviera such as Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.

Within the lovely South Hams area of Devon, Ramslade Club Site also offers easy access to the inland attractions of Dartmoor and the busting cities of Plymouth and Exeter. The convenient location of the caravan site will also give you the opportunity to explore a number of National Trust properties. For walking enthusiasts, the numerous coastal pathways are guaranteed to give hours of scenic pleasure. For a fun day out with the kids, don't miss the Splashdown water park at Goodrington.

Directions

Please only use these recommended directions for the final approach and not sat nav, due to alternative roads being unsuitable for towing. Leave the M5 at junction 31 and follow signs to Torquay (A380) bypassing Newton Abbot. Continue to follow signs for touring parks on Paignton Ring Road (A380). At the traffic lights turn right onto the A385 Totnes Road (signposted Totnes, Plymouth). In about 0.25 mile at the bottom of the hill turn sharp left immediately before The Parker Arms public house. The site is on the right in 1.5 miles (winding road), about 0.25 mile past a large caravan site on left (which is not a Club Site). There is a security barrier at the entrance.

Ten out of ten for caravans, not so great for motorhomes!

This is a very pretty site set in rolling hills and hence on various levels, some affording attractive views of the surrounding countryside – a very welcome rarity. There is what I take to be a newer section, with rigid straight lines set in the bottommost area; this was less to my taste and I happily pitched high up on the western edge, on a serviced pitch, with a lovely view over the site which drops away beneath and to the hills beyond. The pitches here are not level and I had to employ my blocks to their fourth and highest stage, but it was worth this minor issue to be able to enjoy the pick of pitches in an uncluttered area with a lovely open aspect. There are a lot of trees; the main picture on the website had put me off a bit and an advance look at Google earth showed some pitches with big trees overhead - a no-go for me. But these trees had been severely lopped and this made a huge positive difference - the tree by my pitch essentially having only a trunk and two or three seriously shortened main branches left; it might have been dead. The loo blocks were excellent, among the very best. TV was superb – best I’ve ever experienced I think and 4G was exceptional too (Vodafone), so no need for Wi-Fi. There were a good number of chemical disposal points in unusual pagoda type structures, and each of these also had a waste tap and drain but no fresh water tap that I could see. If I was right about this, then fresh water points were scarce and if in a motorhome and you top up your tank with a watering can, you must choose your pitch with care to avoid a lot of walking (or use the waste water tap – I guess the water’s just the same but the hoses on waste taps are the issue). For those with caravans, and hence a car, there is much to do and on that basis the site would get 10 out of 10 for me. However, there are snags for others – mostly those with motorhomes who stay put once pitched. There is a bus, but it’s infrequent and, being Easter, only ran on 2 of the 5 days I was due to be there. It was also very full! Cycling requires fitness due to lots of hills but, more than this, it requires bravery, as does walking. The roads are VERY narrow, with twists and turns, up hill and down vale and there are blind spots all the way. The traffic was constant and much too fast, lacking respect for other road users and, for me, it was much too dangerous for walkers or cyclists alike. To describe the site as “Ideal for cycling” as the website does, is misleading if not delusional. I used public transport on two days to get to Paignton, Exeter, Torquay and Brixham and walked to Stoke Gabriel (a lovely village) on another day, by a less busy back route, but, faced with idly sitting about for the remaining two days, I left early. This is a site of almost idyllic perfection for caravans, but not well suited to motorhomes unless you like just chilling, or you don’t mind taking risks! The low percentage of motorhomes during my stay was perhaps testament to this.

Exceptional

A true gem, it seems to have all the boxes ticked, Spotlessly clean , full service pitches have great access fairly flat but you may need ramps or levelling legs, but not at all bad. Lovely dog paddock, large, well kept and secure. It is incredibly relaxed and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. Bus stop right outside the site . A small shop stocking essentials and some camping spares. Access near the site can get narrow but with care and reduced speed is not an issue. Toilet and shower blocks are the best we have seen almost Hotel like. For those without a full service pitch, there are plenty of well maintained service areas around the site

The perfect getaway

Absolutely loved this site, lots to visit around the area. Such a clean site, toilet blocks were spotless and modern. So quiet, we stayed on serviced pitch 12 the pitch was a nice size and in a nice spot, really quiet and close to all the facilities. The people who ran the site were so friendly and welcoming, the site is a credit to them...

Great autumn getaway site

Second year we have been on site at the very end of the season (as well as in the summer). Quiet friendly site with excellent facilities and staff ( Just wish they would get rid of the slot machines that don't fit the club ethos in my opinion). Great watching the many trees on site change colour. Easy access to the Moors (hound tor worth a climb) and Brixham for a stroll around the harbour (Brixham cafe on the harbour side do a great breakfast). The Gaurdhouse cafe at Berry Head is always worth a visit for coffee after a bracing stroll. The Devon lanes can be a challenge for those used to town and city roads but are great fun exploring and a great way to improve your reversing skills!

Lovely site

First visit to this site and definitely not the last. All the wardens were very friendly and helpful. Toilet facilities were excellent and spotless clean as was the rest of the site, a credit to the wardens. We had our 6 month old grandson with us and used the baby facilities, they were excellent, another nice touch was the room had lovely Disney stencils on the wall. The mobile chip van that called was a big hit with us, not mega expensive good portion and delicious. The approach isn't that good as the road is narrow but you are warned that in the write up to the site. We had a nice size flat pitch and it was still looking good and well covered with the hard standing stones, the last site we stayed on later into the season had a lot of mucky bare patches, our holiday was mid October. Would highly recommend this site
