Why is it such an anathema? You would pay in advance for any number of things from holidays to theatre/concert/Wimbledon tickets. If you require certainty then it doesn't seem unreasonable to pay, at least something, up front.

Is it even possible to have a system that provides both certainty AND flexibility without some sort of premium/advance payment? Should those who wish to ensure the certainty of a weekend pitch on their favourite/honeypot site for every weekend for the coming year be able to do so without any sort of premium/financial commitment?

Personally I will really miss the freedom we now enjoy with the club being able to book and change bookings with such ease but it has never made economic sense to me. I would imagine the majority honour their bookings but a deposit represents a more committed approach on both sides. Let's hope the customer will now get the standard and type of pitch expected and the club have a stronger revenue base.

My post on which you comment was in response to the deposits being non refundable but also coupled with the need to book far ahead and particularly if a hardstand is wanted on certain sites.

But they say that no shows are a very minor problem and that they decreased when deposits were dropped previously,  so why the change back to deposits now?

From Conversation with site staff ,it seems that since last year no shows have been on the increase and it seems, mostly involves new members with motorcaravans /campers

Perhaps we could have a system like BF with cheaper non refundable pitch nights and more expensive fully flexible. You wouldn’t get your deposit back, but you would be able to change your booking, say up to 72 hours before.

It’s a system used by hotel chains as well. Pay now, cheap, but non-refundable. Pay now, dearer, but refundable up to x days/hours before the take up date.

Here's the LINK to the CAMC 2020 financial statements. Remembering that the first Covid lockdown started in March 2020.
