Disappointed Insurance information

Very disappointed when talking to the Club regarding renewing my caravan insurance to find that they had incorrect information regarding replacing our van under the New for Old cover. When I checked the amount with them that would be needed to replace our existing Sterling Continental 580 the representative tried to tell me that the cost of this van had reduced since last year. When I queried what replacement van she was basing this figure on she advised me that a NEW Sterling Continental was cheaper than last year. When I tried to advise her that this was not possible as Sterling brand were no longer made she continued to insist that it was listed in her guide and was that the sum I wanted to insure for? Even after referring to her manager she was still questioning me as to why I needed a higher amount of cover despite me telling her that I would need to purchase a Swift Elegance model to have an equivalent caravan. After much discussion she quoted me for the figure I felt was required but I found this whole episode worrying. What would have happened if I had accepted her advice then needed to make a claim ? Would they have paid out to replace my van with an equivalent one or would they have said I had under - insured an refused my claim?  Needless to say I've been busy checking other providers.

Hi R&R, I have no doubt that, based on the may positive comments, the club service is commendable.

However, how does anyone know that any other provider would be inferior?

I think that, like many other things, when people have invested their money and faith in a product they are unlikely to be negative about it.

Yes, this subject has been done to death and I, for one, wouldn't contemplate going elsewhere other than the Club after the outstanding service I experienced last year when, unfortunately, I had to make a claim. I'm not bothered if I'm paying slightly more for my 'insurance / cover'. At the end of the day, it's how you're treated, at what is usually a fairly stressful time, that matters.

Whilst I take your point, I wasn't suggesting that other providers were necessarily inferior.  I am sure there are many good companies / brokers out there but, having tested the response of CAMC cover, I am more than satisfied to the extent that I won't bother looking anywhere else because I don't think the service is likely to be better.

As for your final point, rest assured, that had my experience been unacceptable, I would have been the first to post on here about it.

As I said earlier  I too have had good service  when it was still insurance however that's not the issue or is it price, for  me its trust

I am paying "eye watering " sums to insure a brand very attractive to thieves and should I have taken cover it would have  at that time been £60 cheaper and that coincidentally  is exactly how much the club was able to shave off the price by not paying insurance premuim tax.

However having had dealings with the club on another matter and one where the sum was relatively  modest it's not an organisation I would wish to be in dispute with over thousands

...coincidentally is exactly how much the club was able to shave off the price by not paying insurance premuim tax.

Just to be clear about this, the club does not shave off anything, the club does not pay the tax  - you pay the tax.  The club merely collects the tax from you and passes it on to HMRC.

Others (not you) have posted how the club has some how 'got around' or 'got out of' paying its taxes and this is not the case. I also recall that the club was inspected by the tax authorities on this and was found to be perfectly legal.

I can second that from personal experience, I asked what IPT was & was told it was a Govt tax that has been imposed on the insured via the insurance industry. It’s useful to know. . .Yup, death & taxes🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes perfectly correct. It's a tax on insurance. It's not a tax on "cover"  hence the company quoting me for insurance will need to apply it and the one selling cover wont. The clue is in the name.

Indeed but you posted:

how much the club was able to shave off the price by not paying insurance premuim tax

which gave the impression that the club was cheaper as it did not have to pay insurance tax.

You have got it now. Club £540  Saga £600.

not sure what I have there David apart from your prices which I didn't ask for?

I merely corrected the impression you gave that the club was cheaper as it does not have to pay IPT. Anyway OT.
