It doesn't have to be a choice of UK or abroad, it can be both in the same year. OK this year might be an exception!

One undeniable consideration is  that holidaying abroad will become more expensive in terms of health insurance as you get older. It therefore makes sense to fulfill your ambitions to far flung places, if you have any, whilst the health insurance cost is reasonable especially if visiting the US.

Whilst undoubtedly the UK has some very nice places, the rest of the world by virtue of size and varied cultures will have more

The UK will still be around when you are in your 80s and 90s.

Whatever you decide have a good time!

Need to do more of it, had a fantastic time last year, camped in Tavistock for 1 month but visited lots of places in Cornwall,

watched Cornish Fisherman on the box last night, and Looe/Polpero figured quite a lot in the programme, many years ago did stay at the Looe club site with 3 Gkids, had a great time, but you need to go when the kids are at school, ours finished 1 week before most state schools so was ok.

However........

travelling from Santander to say Mazarron is sheer bliss compared to say just Southampton to Tavistock, and with many staying at home this year, the West country is going to be quite crowded i feel.undecided

Yes, Cornwall: This Fishing Life is an excellent series. Not surprisingly most of them are deeply unhappy with Brexit despite all the promises offered during campaigning.

Brexit and covid are delivering them a double whammy at the moment. There are some heart touching stories.

Interestingly we talk about the clear blue waters of the Med and ask if we have similar in the Uk, but....

"According to a study by the French Institute for Sea Research and Exploration (Ifremer), the Mediterranean Sea is the most polluted European sea. Two hundred thousand tons of plastic is dumped each year, representing more than 60 percent of all the trash we find at the bottom of the sea."

this was research done in 2019, similar study was done for the Adriatic which reported that although the sea was exceptionally clean it did have a severe plastic problem.

and if you want to see grand polution on a massive scale take a look at reports for Mar Menor, yes here in the UK we have our problems but over there is not as green as people seem to think.

So crystal blue waters do not necessarily mean the water is clean.

Last year I regularly swam in the Bude beach pool, as fine as any Mediteranean sealaughing

The lack of tides is the main reason the waters are as blue as they are in the Med. It’s how the underwater eco systems work, given that the water only changes through the narrow straits of Gibraltar. some areas are wonderful, others not so good. Same as around UK, some of the clearest waters are not always the cleanest.

I always take the view that if the water I am swimming in, has thriving coral, an abundance of tropical fish, turtles, rays etc, it is probably as good as you will get.

No, but not far off. Chapel Point, Portmellon (Mevagissey). Currently home to about 18 seals.
