Not much chance of France this summer

Little chance of a French holiday this summer I'm afraid. The French Government have just announced today ( 2 May) that their state of emergency will continue until 24 July and that anyone entering from another country must undergo 14 days quarentine. If you take a look at La Provence online you can read the original article ( in French) .

We have just cancelled our bookings for two weeks at Saint Clair  and two at  Cavalaire down on the Cote d'azur in JUne. Both sites have sent us emails in reply.  Saint Clair was a no fee/ on trust booking so no refund but they sent us their best wishes and hope to see us next year. Camping de la Baie have cancelled our booking and sent us a 50€ voucher to cover next year's booking fee. Apparently it's the law for Covid cancellations.

"Under these exceptional circumstances, a ministerial order dated 25 March 2020 regulates the conditions for the cancellation of stays due to COVID-19.

It specifies that a voucher (Bon a Valoir) for the full value of any payments made to date will be issued. In this context, please see below the details of your voucher. The voucher is valid for the next eighteen (18) months."

The UK/France seem to have come to an agreement with neither country requiring quarantine for travellers between the two. Macron seems to be quite keen to have us spending in France so provided the R factor remains consistent between us France may be back on later in the summer.

No he didn't he said something along the lines of big lavish international holidays are most likely off the cards, don`t think he was thinking of Brittany in a caravan at say the end of August. However as none of the science or government really seem to understand this virus it could go anyway.

He also said he would be testing 100000 people a day and we are world leaders at testing. I believe he also said people in care homes weren't high risk for catching covid 19. He said the statement from Boris on Sunday was clear to him ?  I could go on sealedsealedsurprised

Irrespective of all this "no holidays" rhetoric , concentrate on what the law and secondary legislation says in both UK and France.

The intention seems to be to allow travel between France and UK without quarantine restrictions. Good.

BUT there are not yet any passenger ferries running, that has to await further changes to  UK secondary legislation ( Coronovirus Health Regulations 2020) and for similar changes in France, not due until July, for both opening of camp sites and permission of non French national to enter the country. There is quite a bit in the French press about  measures to allow opening of French camp sites - I find La Provence online quite useful.

So it may just  be possible to get a holiday in France  in August( or not)

The French PM has said that (unless something goes wrong in the meantime) bars, cafes and restaurants in the  Green zones of France will reopen on 2nd June  and has encouraged French citizens to plan and book holidays in France for July and August.
