Charging electric vehicles on club pitches

Whilst a club site I observed a fellow caravaner charging his vehicle via the external socket of his caravan, is this procedure conducive with the guidance given on site leaflets "that the use of electricity should be considered to help minimise our effect on the environment", additional should extra charges be made for carrying out such procedure.

Why the difference between mobility scooter and plug in car? Yes one is for disability and the other for business/leisure but both give the freedom for going from A to B.

Either charge (money) for all or for none.

May I make a suggestion which may please the majority.

In the next few years there will be more electric vehicles on site,

(a) all electric and plug in hybrid be registered with the caravan club,

(b) if you wish to charge you vehicle on site you have to get a ticket which has to be displayed on site , the ticket to have a time and date.

(c) different coloured  tickets i.e red for a full electric and yellow for a plug in hybrid with the appropriate charge, some companies are charging £0.09 + vat kWh, say £2.00 hybrid /£4.00 electric.

(d) the appropriate ticket to be displayed when the vehicle is being charged, then the wardens can monitor the system and fellow caravan's can report any freeloaders,

(e) misuse of the system more than 2/3 time suspension of membership.

Does that sound reasonable.

I strongly disagree. Whilst the electricity is included in pitch fee I would not wish to create complications for anybody whose disability necessitates the complications of using a mobility scooter on holiday.

If, as an interim provision, CC banned charging cars on pitch and provided charging points elsewhere should the mobility vehicles also be charged elsewhere?

with respect why is your mobility scooter to be exempt? Do those that need these scooters get cheaper fuel for their cars?

Posted on 22/10/2018 10:01

No they have to pay the same

so why as you posted:

I strongly be live if you are going to charge an electric vehicle (except my mobility scooter) you should pay the fair market cost,

And say a green ticket for those that want to use awning heaters.......

On second thoughts maybe green is not the correct colour.....smile

And to prevent people cheating when the warden has gone to bed, we could recruit more wardens so that they can have 24 hour patrols to ensure compliance.........

All seems a good idea to me........wink

PD will be along in a minute to remind us that metering individual pitches is the way forward........!

And compared to this idea he is correct.......

innocent

no, not really. For practical reasons mainly. Each bollard would then have to have it's own meter to check how much electricity is being used. Who would pay for that?

Charge is in price or amps btw?

I don't think that fellow campers want to check up and report on others and wardens have better things to do than wander round (like Blakey on the buses, or Hodges - put that charger out) checking pitches.

There is an all inclusive fee which includes electricity. Up to 16A, and campers can use that as they see fit with that 16A, an awning heater, hair dryers, tv, chargers.... or even a EV. It really doesn't matter what the electricity is used on?

I have noted recently that more and more public car parks are charging blue badge holders (cash strapped councils?)which i cannot see a problem withundecidedsurprised

But as for charging mobility scooters on you pitch who would know as can the batteries be removed?

I agree with ET. Electricity is factored into pitch fees. There is no need to over complicate things since a maximum amount can be used for whatever reason within the 16A. I have come round to agreeing though that a non EHU option should be available and certainly prefer that option to metered supply, even though we'd probably benefit as very low users of electricity.

Anyway, with all the different coloured pegs the club is going to need to invent some new colours if we're going to have coloured tickets as well! wink
