Have CAMC over priced some sites

Just stayed mid August on the Chatsworth site costing over £35 per night for two people  on a standard pitch. During the week there were many unused pitches and even at weekends there were several not taken. Very few children and those there seemed to be with grandparents. August has to be the busiest month and previously you had to book Chatsworth well in advance to  have any hope of getting a pitch. A very nice site with superb wardens but it would seemed getting far too expensive. Surely better to charge less and fill a site to maintain profit margins than overprice and have reduced members attending.

The Tuesday is a different story with many arrivals as the prices are significantly reduced,

Or is it folk avoiding the busier bank holiday? Dunno

I think you should also remember that gone are the days when people flocked enmass, from, in particular, industrial towns and cities at pre-set dates to take summer holidays, today peoples holidays both school and work are much more flexible.

Given the availability figures, they are clearly not being very flexible and flocking on the last weekend of the school holidays. Perhaps it is time to reconsider if this should still be included in peak?

In years where it wasn't included in peak, I rember sites were busier on the Monday. When working we always used to go away from the Saturday to the Wednesday.

We have just returned from an August holiday, and from a popular area, and can say that the lack of visitors is very noticeable. We travelled through and around 10 different counties, but stayed in Devon, visiting Cornwall on three days. We were astonished at how quiet places like Tavistock, Totnes, Cotehele were, normally bursting at the seams in August. We travelled down through Cotswolds, and then back through Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, and again, not as busy as we would expect. Weekends were bustling, but midweek very quiet. This year the weather has been poor, but I think it’s a lot more than that, a deal of general uncertainty until the country sorts itself out maybe. We passed lots of caravan sites, Club and private, none appeared full.

Conversely, I browse holiday cottage websites looking for short notice breaks. Despite it being peak season, they are full, even at the high Summer prices.

I cannot ever remember the last w/end of school holidays being "busy"as it is still school holidays "we do not go away at those times"is the normal couples responses, and parents are too busy any waysurprised

We got badly caught out by the Clubs pricing policy last year. October half term. I made a mistake and we had to find a site quite late in the day driving up off Exmoor. Without checking price I chose Hurn Lane, just for one night. I think it was close to £30 for that one night. Had it been the following day, the price reduced greatly. I wasn’t amused, and still beat myself up about it. We were on site from 7.30 pm until 9am. A lesson learned. That one nights stay saw our nightly average soar.

Where I’m staying over there I’m paying €34/night if I include ferries and red pennant which is about £650 by our 30 nights that’s another £22.50 so our nightly rate is about £52.50/night.  No swimming pool or clubhouse included, but the sun is shining 🌞
