Interesting petition

A new petition has been created urging the CAMC to look at alternative provision for motorhomes on the basis that they need less facilities than are provided by existing sites and located closer to towns.

It makes an interesting suggestion that existing sites might suffer if (towed) caravan sales decline as a result of lack of availability of suitable tow cars.

Assuming that it receives sufficient support, I would hope that the CAMC would provide a reasoned response (whether positive or negative), based on constructive thought, rather than simply ignoring it.

By and large in Europe overnight parking for motorhomes was initiated by local councils making car park space available - that is gradually happening here in the UK - witness Exmouth and Canterbury. Here in the SW other car parks are allowing overnights too - Tintagel, Mevagissey, Appledore, Bideford, Holsworthy, Clovelly and so on come to mind. That is probably the best way forward for motorhomers to pursue rather than looking for Club involvement.

Campsites in mainland Europe have got in on the act by offering closely spaced reduced price pitches just for motorhomes - but this Club is so tied to the 6 metre rule that there is no likelihood of that one happening, is there.

If Mark Bevan is serious about this, one would have assumed he'did have looked in here by now, seen this thread, and commented. As it is we can only speculate. undecided

I've no idea if he is even aware of this thread. I don't even know him.

As said previously, the only reason I posted is that I thought it might promote constructive discussion.

I personally feel that the petitioner is approaching the wrong group as the club already provides a variety of pitches for all types of user via it's sites, CLs and rallies.

As Eurotraveller says in Europe many small schemes are started by local councils to promote and provide income for their areas.

Having seen what somewhere like Exmouth has been trying to do recently there is a possibility that this could be taken up by other councils. But, and it's a big but, the infrastructure has to be there already (there are toilet facilities and water supplies at Exmouth) because funding won't be coming from local rate payers when other, much more urgent and important services are needed.

Agreed, Brue. He’s definitely approaching the wrong group. This isn’t something that can be set up in such locations by private individuals or companies.

Absolutely, but since he's decided to lobby for the club to provide these facilities one would have thought he'd have done a bit of research and been aware that this forum exists.

And you’d expect he'd be eager to put his own case and answer questions🤔

Please see my previous reply. There are dumps for black waste tanks at some CAMC sites. Blackpool and Tewkesbury are two that spring to mind.

Which is fine if you use those sites. In reality very few UK motorhomes have black tanks

Hopefully not. I have been on sites like that many years ago but soon moved on laughing

It was the two inch rule at Exmouth when I saw the arrangement, plus generators. Not everyone's cup of tea at all. But the bonus was a beautiful view of the estuary and a few boy racers at night! (£11 parking costs for 24 hours)
