Proportion of Serviced v Standard Pitches

On this forum the subject of whether there are not enough or too many serviced pitches has been discussed from time to time. We have recently stayed at the new Club site Cayton Village near Scarborough. Nice site and from a motorhome perspective it has good access to public transport. However what surprised me was the fact that the site only seemed about half full over the weekend and I wondered if this was a result of the site having a majority of serviced pitches, 190 out of about 270 pitches in total and people not being willing to pay the extra £3.90 a night? I suspect when the Club refurbish the the site the number of serviced pitches will be considerably reduced as in general the current ones don't meet the Clubs spacing requirements. The reason we had  a serviced pitch was that we wanted a hardstanding and with only 29 standard hardstanding on the site we didn't want to risk it!

I suspect that if CC Ltd allowed customers to choose the type of pitch they want SP, HS, Grass, etc. the bookings of SP would drop off considerably as most MH's simply don't need them.

Assuming the "facilities" are clean, of a reasonable standard, and we make use of them, starting with a full fresh water tank and empty waste tank we would be able to go the full 21 days easily; not that we would ever stay that long.  One fill, one dump, and only the cassette to deal with in between - simples.

"Need" and "Wish" are totally different though! So I'm not so sure. On our recent visits to Cirencester Park, low season when only the HS pitches are available, I'd say there have been roughly equal numbers of vans and MHs on the service pitches. Folk may be choosing to use a SP for all sorts of reasons; I don't think you (one) can assume that because you (one) would do without (and so would we!) others would or should do the same.

Not that CC Ltd site hold much of an attraction for us but they do seem to be expanding the number of HS which we prefer, and hopefully not converting so many to SP's that the choice disappears.

What has bought about this "(one) you" nonsense?

Although you've recently rejoined and stayed on (at least) 2 sites, DD?

I used "one" simply to indicate that I was making a general statement and not referring to "you" specifically. It's a grammatical nicety that even a former maths teacher is aware of! smile

Most sites we have used have only a small number of serviced pitches and these always seem to be well used. Possibly someone took a leap in the dark as to just how far this could be taken and went rather too far.
