Small Private Sites

I know a few members are like us and mix in a few none Club Sites into a tour. Thought I would open up a thread for folks to post website links to any nice sites they come across, that might interest others.

This one to start with http://www.thamesheadinn.co.uk/camping-caravan-sites-cirencester-glos.html

Just off A433 few miles from Cirencester, so ideal for Cotswolds area. Plenty to see and do in area, Pub is nice for food.

Moderator Edit:

This thread is for posting links and/or reviews.  Please don't use it to discuss the merits, or otherwise, of other people's choices.

Thank You.

That would be good if it's allowed.

A query though: if it is to be a locked thread, how can members post recommended sites?

People could continue to add links to this thread and they would just be copied from here to the locked thread. The problem with having an open thread is that it can go off topic and make it difficult to follow.

Old fashioned way is often best. All it needs is a small address book. Then find a pen (remember them?) and list each site under its county. Simples. So even if you don't have wifi connection you should have a record. Plus other recommended sites pop up all over the place on CT. Remember the Canal thread? Cls? General Chat? Other Forums?

So if you can't make a spreadsheet you can probably still write.

Memo to self. Get organised and start making that list.😀

Indeed. I am thinking of restarting my “ Little Black Book of Sites”. I might see if I can have a go at making a list via the spreadsheet app for iPad, but given most of my previous bungled efforts, it is a distinct possibility it might not happen.

Here’s another addition that some might like, we stayed here years ago, back when it was a CL. It left the network, but looks as though the next generation is now involved and it looks to have undergone some updates. We loved the tranquility and location, it is a place we often remember, and it is very special. A proper campsite, a world away from most Club Sites of today, so you’ll either love it, or not like it!😁

Mutts £2 a day and you can use the fire pits provided but you've to buy the wood from them? 🤔

It is what it is MM, the location is simply stunning, the basic price for two adults isn’t huge, and using their fuel possibly means old painted rubbish isn’t burnt and sending up smoke signals across to Wales! It won’t appeal in any way to Club Site lovers, it’s not that kind of place. I would also add that it’s truly magical if nearly empty, but very different (and not for us) on a BH.

Think Guardian readers experiencing “the dream”😂

Not all Guardian readers dream of such places! Not my cup of tea. The idea of fire pits would put me off straight away! Having been smoked like a kipper on a few sites abroad I am just glad the Club don't allow such things.

Just a quick note about my earlier suggestion of Hawthorne Cottage near Coleford. It really is a very nice site, AO, backing right on to the forest. Easy access from either Coleford or Lydney, through the village of Sling to Clements End. Final drive in needs a tiny bit of care but no great problem.  Just 10 pitches, a bit slopey at the top end and you'd definitely need a mover to get on to some of them.  Basic toilet/shower block, but perfectly clean and useable  (20p for a long hot shower!), due, we were told to be replaced for next year. TV reception is a bit dodgy, but you can hire a free sat box for £1 a day if that's important to you.  Loads of walks within a very short drive away.  Very friendly owner and at just £14 a night for pitch + 2, great value. smile

Could a Mod please make this a sticky, as there will be CT members who would no doubt wish to visit some of these sites and it's hard enough at the moment to find this post, and will only get harder as more post are added.
