I know there are several wine lovers on here, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a place to discuss and share each others favourite tipple.

A wine I have recently taken to is Barefoot Merlot.  A Californian wine, full bodied wine with a blueberry and plumb flavour.  Really worth a try.  We get it from the Co-op at a little less than £7 a bottle.

Did anyone watch Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley on their champagne tour the other night, I really enjoyed it. We had a lovely two week stay on a house exchange over there and it brought back happy memories. We toured the Taittinger and Mercier cellars, plus a recommended call to a private estate where "Madame" came out of her chateau like house and got us an inexpensive bottle out from the stores in the yard. Happy memories. smile

Brue

I tried to post about the programme yesterday but something went wrong and I never got round to re-posting so thanks for your post. I thought it was quite interesting and you got to know quite a bit about Champagne as well as lovely scenery and a lovely car!

Thanks David ( apologies for the double happy memories bit, must check my editing more.) It was quite entertaining wasn't it, every champagne cellar is different, I think we went round Taittinger in a train. It was interesting to see the Bollinger set up and the grape harvest bit was lovely. I've just heard from our house swap family over there, we've been in touch for years and have met up again since then.

Try the Costiere de Nîmes from Aldi. A lot of depth for quite a cheap price. Our every day red at the moment.

Many years ago we went down the Moet caves at Epernay.  Still remember it really well.  Twenty-five years ago the tours were free.  These days you have to pay!  smile

Just had a very nice wine with our Boxing Day meal. It was a Riesling which would not be my first choice of grapes for a white wine but this was rather nice as it was slightly dryer. We purchased the wine when we were in Austria last year from the Klosterneuburg Monastery not far from Vienna. Not sure if it is available in the UK but if you find yourself that way well worth a bottle or two.

A great area, DK, for sweet white wines. We usually bring a bottle or two back for MIL, normally Beerenauslese. Not my cup of tea, so to speak, but she seems to love it.

Just at the moment I don't want to see another glass of prosecco, the cheap lidl champagne went down well, hope you have all enjoyed your festive drinks. wink
