Wine!

I know there are several wine lovers on here, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a place to discuss and share each others favourite tipple.

A wine I have recently taken to is Barefoot Merlot.  A Californian wine, full bodied wine with a blueberry and plumb flavour.  Really worth a try.  We get it from the Co-op at a little less than £7 a bottle.

M & S have their Dine for £10 for 2 offer on at the moment, including wine, so we picked up a bottle of their red, GSM, which is extremely enjoyable and, at about £0.00, a bit of a bargain.

I don't know what other Tesco shoppers think but we haven't bought any of their wine for quite some time now and I was perusing their aisles the other day as they have a 25% off for 6 offer on at the moment. We used to buy a really nice Cotes du Rhone, about £8-10 a bottle from memory. They don't even stock it now and they seem to have gone down market with an awful lot of the products. Do others find the same thing or am I being a little harsh?

Don't know about Tesco but Sainsburys have their "buy 6 or more, save 25%" offer on at the moment and I've been saving our Nectar points just for this. Bought 18 bottles yesterday, after using points, paid with a fiver and still got change.

That's my idea of shopping! wink

I thought most supermarkets gave a small extra discount for buying six or more bottles, usually around 5%. I know Waitrose do so if you combine with a 25% offer it all adds up. I keep being told by a certain person that I already have enough wine!!!

Years ago it seemed to be a badge of honour for the various supermarkets to get a good review for there wine selection but you don't see so much of that now. That might explain why Tesco appear not to to be as good as they once were?

Couldn't resist buying a bottle of this Rose to try. The owner had a stall in Cirencester market this morning. Produced about 11 miles away from where our van is pitched.

I've just ordered 3 cases (36 bottles) of English wine from Three Choirs Vineyard - 20% off at the moment. I know we have quite a bit in hand, but it doesn't do to run out!

If you fancy a really nice luxury break Goldie the rooms at the vineyard in Gloucestershire are very nice, great view from your terrace over the vines. They also have lodges. The restaurant is exceptional, with of course an ample supply of wines, a reasonable price too, as long as you stick with those produced by 3C's.

It’s a bit too far for us. We first bought the wine after visiting the vineyard in 1999 while staying at the CC site near Hereford.

We have been buying it ever since!
