I’m not convinced that taking a life is the right deterrent or message that you can’t take a life, or is it-the state taking of a life is acceptable but not an individual doing it. If someone takes the life of one of those child murderers is it then acceptable or even lauded?-state sponsored murder is still murder not justice.

Let's not forget, also, those who were wrongly convicted and later freed from prison. There's no second chances with a death penalty.

I do not think there is need of the penalty suggested,  my brother did a stint as PO ln the IOW and has said in the past  that those prisoners who are there for any crimes against children, have a horrendous time while serving their sentance

Sorry, CY, I can't agree with your last sentence. Nothing is less humane than the deliberate taking of a life. If "we" (society) go back down that road "we" are no better than those who perpetrate the original awful crimes.

In the case of Arthur there is absolutely no question whatsoever, of whether his step mother and actual father were guilty and in my view, they both deserved the death penalty!

We can't apply the death penalty just to satisfy our anger over such a terrible happening. That makes us vengeful and little better than the perpetrators.

I'm all for locking that pair up and throwing away the key but I'm sure that other convictions which were subsequently overturned were also believed to be sound at the time.
