What’s coming up, into bloom, not behaving, visiting, living in, passing through? Post a photo or two, and share your garden year with others 😁

Hellebores, lovely bright crocus, and snowdrops.

Unhappy with my Bathsheba rose, it just does not seem the same as when bought.

Maybe it will get going Hosta, roses can take a few years to mature. I've had disappointments with some over the years but I think yours looks better than some of my failures!

Lovely to see all those ox eye daisies in your garden EribaM.

Our garden is working at full tilt just now but the heavy rain forecast is probably going to ruin some of the lovely flowers...frown

They look great , I'm in East Yorks and although it's now warm and sunny, my roses are only just coming into bud . My peony has only small 1/2" buds ,so a little behind you .

I’m on the East coast(Yorks) my Roses have been in flower for months(no exaggeration) Gertrude Jekyll fills the bottom part of the garden with fragrance, she is facing due East. I do not feed nor mulch any of them, the Alluvial silt that makes up our area is a super base for growing in its just a pig to dig. There will be a reason for your issues H.

What exactly is bothering you about it HH? Foliage looks to be good, plenty of buds. One thing that struck me was the colour of the blooms (could be photo of course) but it looks quite pale for a Bathsheba, I thought they were a slightly darker apricot. How close to coast are you by the way, some roses find coastal conditions challenging.

When the buds start to open the majority have a brownish colour on the petals , most don't open and die. The ones that do open don't last long and the central part is a lot lighter on some and as you say are quite pale . I don't live that close to the coast 40ish miles.

Unlikely to be salt air damage. I did a bit of Googling, I wonder if it might be Thrips, tiny little insect. Damage seems to fit the description, see what you thinkπŸ€” I think it’s a fairly easy fix if it is, so long as you don’t mind using a spray to sort out.
One of my Roses got attacked by tiny leaf munching caterpillars a couple of years ago, I tried picking them off, but simply too many, sort I resorted to a spray. Not keen on using them, but needs must.

Thanks for that TTDA, I will check that out . But had one reply from David Austin just asked me if it had rained a lot and what I fed the rose with. Still waiting for another reply to my answers.

Rain does spoil some roses more than others, it could be one of those years (a bit like some camellias are more prone to frost damage.) After the deluges we've had this week I've got a lot of roses that are looking brown and soggy but a few stronger ones are ok.

I've got a rose called Alec's red and I know that if it rains the flower buds will just rot and fall off but I keep it going because when all is ok it's a nice rose. smile

Yes, same here Brue, I have some very soggy roses at the moment, sad after such a wonderful early showing. Just daily dead heading, taking away soggy brown bloom. Some had a bit of frost damage as well, as it was very cold some nights here in May.
