Welcome to all Dog lovers & generally Canine minded Folk. I have started this to enable a Thread to be used-in the Pet section with a title 'I love Dogs' so there will be no problems with attracting the right Posters, and the 'wrong Posters' give it a swerverCool. I am mainly a working Dog Lover, I have had-J/Russells, Retrievers, Lurchers. Currently have 2 White Cockapoo's. Mum & Daughter. Not my kind of Dogs(at first) the OH fell in love with the Breed a year after losing the Retriever. Now I couldn't imagine life without them. You either love Dogs or don't, if you do then life without them really is empty. I feel for the none Dog Folk, not knowing the joys of owning Dogs. But I'm not stupid enough to believe just because I love em everyone should. So if you would like to talk Canine, please be my guestSmile

I agree with all above and having a dog to walk and care for was a lifesaver during lock-down.smile

Hi to all, it has been many months since I looked in on CT but this is one of the threads I miss the most. I’m so glad to see my old friends are still posting and keeping well.

Our Lurcher Tess is now 10 and has slowed down quite a bit but is more tolerant of other dogs than she used to be. We did have a scare last year when a large lump grew on the elbow of her right leg and she had to have it removed. Sadly a subsequent biopsy showed that it was cancerous and there are no guarantees that it has all been removed but so far all is well and Tess is doing well.

Great to hear from you all.cool

Hi, Nevers. Your post has just appeared. Good to see you back on here and to hear Tess is doing well despite that scare.

Time flies so quickly and our dogs are with us a relatively short time which is why we cherish every day in their company.

Keep on posting 😊

Great to hear from you Nevers. I think you were just about to get Tess last time we saw you, bit of a scare, but good to hear all is well. Our mad Labrador has calmed down a bit now👍

Although currently dogless but still friendly with many mutts in the village and beyond I remembered a quote which sums up my thinking entirely:

"The more I come into contact with Humans the more I like Dogs"

My up and down health prognosis has prevented us from taking the plunge. It's getting a bit like house moving, the longer you leave it the more you wish you did something about it years ago. C'est la vie.

Pukka Summer weather, warm overnight then out with the Dogs @ pre 6am, I checked the temp +15c. Dew on the meadow, the Dogs ran thru the meadow to let their daft out. Me?, I walked around the edge, it’s up to near my hips right now & the grasses are setting seed. Glorious morning, birdsong & birds everywhere. Have a great day👍🏻

Glorious morning here, pooch has taken himself outside for his pre walkies nap, he’s an old boy nowadays, so we take things steady with him.

Found this on BBC this morning, looks like Australians are finding dogs a great solace as well during their latest lockdown in Melbourne......

Wonderful encounter with a single Dunnock chick earlier on my way out with the Dogs. I know it came from the Pyracantha hedge as I’ve heard them growing up. It was sat there bowing & fluttering until it heard one of its parents not 6’ from me & the Dogs playing the sacrificial broken wing card. That is quite beautiful to see, drawing fire from its chick. By then the chick had hunkered into as smaller quiet ball as it could. I placed it on the low log store roof & we continued out onto the meadow. Wonderful experience & contact with wildlife. I value the Dunnocks as they pick up spilt seed from those messy starlings. I rarely have things growing. Enjoy your day👍🏻😊

Your encounter with the Dunnock chick and the actions of the parent bird took me right back to my childhood R2B.

When I helped out on the farm we would often walk too close to Lapwings nests, in fact the nest and eggs were so well camouflaged that you could accidentally step on them if you weren’t careful. The giveaway was that the parents would first swoop down at you but if you got even closer to a nest they would use the injured bird trick to try and draw you away from the nest. Obviously once we knew the location of the nest we would try to avoid that area in future.

Sadly the Lapwing like many other field birds are in decline in this part of the country but I do know where to spot them when on my walks with Tess, just hearing the peewit call makes me smile.

Thanks for jogging my memory R2B.smile
