Welcome to all Dog lovers & generally Canine minded Folk. I have started this to enable a Thread to be used-in the Pet section with a title 'I love Dogs' so there will be no problems with attracting the right Posters, and the 'wrong Posters' give it a swerverCool. I am mainly a working Dog Lover, I have had-J/Russells, Retrievers, Lurchers. Currently have 2 White Cockapoo's. Mum & Daughter. Not my kind of Dogs(at first) the OH fell in love with the Breed a year after losing the Retriever. Now I couldn't imagine life without them. You either love Dogs or don't, if you do then life without them really is empty. I feel for the none Dog Folk, not knowing the joys of owning Dogs. But I'm not stupid enough to believe just because I love em everyone should. So if you would like to talk Canine, please be my guestSmile

Your encounter with the Dunnock chick and the actions of the parent bird took me right back to my childhood R2B.

When I helped out on the farm we would often walk too close to Lapwings nests, in fact the nest and eggs were so well camouflaged that you could accidentally step on them if you weren’t careful. The giveaway was that the parents would first swoop down at you but if you got even closer to a nest they would use the injured bird trick to try and draw you away from the nest. Obviously once we knew the location of the nest we would try to avoid that area in future.

Sadly the Lapwing like many other field birds are in decline in this part of the country but I do know where to spot them when on my walks with Tess, just hearing the peewit call makes me smile.

Thanks for jogging my memory R2B.smile

It was my pleasure Nevs👍🏻, our wildlife is one of the utmost mental health supporters in my book. Whatever is wrong in our lives being around wildlife in their natural environment is a stress calmer free to all. It’s also good for the soul🙂

I’m sitting here watching through the patio doors as a female blackbird and her faithful dunnock friend root around in the rockery after bugs and crumbs. They always seem to be together. Fascinating!

Out with my Dogs around 05:45am this morning, we met a Magpie chick that’d been displaced or fallen from its nest, it was big, ugly & noisy but nowhere near as noisy as its(both) parents. The Dogs sat looking at it with tilted heads as it laid back with its beak & talons raking the air. It looked like a baby velociraptor from Jurassic Park, geez they’re feisty little beggars. I managed to pick it up from behind enclosing it’s wings so it’s oversized beak couldn’t get at my hands. I placed it on a dead bleached ash tree-it jumped immediately into the tangle of Blackberry & wild rose briars. I was just glad to get away from the cacophony. I was initially concerned the feral cats would have it but after that encounter I think the jury is out on who’d win the cat or the mini Velociraptor. Have a good day👍🏻

You got it to a place of safety, Rocky, and I'm sure the feisty little thing will be fine. Birds do seem to be remarkably resilient. A woodpecker flew into our closed window the other day, dropped into a heather bush where it lay for a few minutes then zoomed off into the woods.

T-did it’s Bill scratch your glass?, geez them things are hard. Mother Nature gave them an extra strong skull to fend off any damage whilst tree digging👍🏻😊

I've not spotted any damage, Rocky. I think it must have been a gentle headbutt🙂.
