Don't wish to appear churlish, BB, but instead of you implying it was my interpretation which was at fault I was thinking more along the lines of "sorry, I might have been wrong about that" as appropriate!

Just to go back to the OP for a second I don't actually see my strongly held preference for HS as fussy.
It's part of my assessment of whether a site offers value for money. In my view grass is worth no more than £15 a night, occasionally a bit more if the location warrants it.

Posted on 22/06/2018 08:40 by peedeeI would have thought £15p.n. to be below the average price for a grass pitch and EHU on a full facility site?

Indeed it is and that's why this club tends not to get my business during the period when grass is likely to be in use. I won't take the risk of paying £30 a night to find when I get there I'll be on grass.
The C&CC has it right. Choosing what you want at the point of booking is much better.
Edit - I have no idea of the average price of a grass pitch with the other club as I've never considered booking one

The weather is such that it has reached the stage where I am very reluctant to pitch on grass. There are undoubtedly sites where grass pitches are OK in very wet weather but the vast majority of hard standing does cope well - a few puddle.
I would prefer to be able to ask for hard standing rather than a non awning pitch. Running a trial for a year whereby members could book hard standing pitches would give the club useful data at HO as to demand.
I look at sites and determine whether to take the risk of being on grass. Over the last 18 months, I've only been put on grass and not hard standing on one occasion. We sunk in before we even reached the pitch [Bladon Chains site]. Embarrassing to be pushed out by other motorhome owners before we pitched - we went to another site.
