We reviewed the site on 27/08/13, shortly after it was opened, and again on 30/05/16, both as family caravanners and before it became adults only. As the site hasn’t been reviewed for a couple of years and we now motorhome on our wn, this review is from a slightly different perspective. This is a great site if like us you don’t want to drive off-pitch. The walking and cycling opportunities from the site are limitless and all can be linked to a café or pub. The regular nearby X3 bus service will quickly get you to Ringwood and Fordingbridge, which can also be reached on foot, or Boscombe, Bournemouth or Salisbury. These open up other walking and bus opportunities. For example, walking along the coastal path to Swanage and returning on the Purbeck Breezer 50 open-top bus via Studland and Sandbanks. You could just go to Sandbanks and visit Brownsea Island. You can walk in the other direction from Bournemouth or Boscombe to Hengbersbury Head and Christchurch. The X3 is a better way of exploring Salisbury than staying on the CAMC Salisbury site, which is miles from Salisbury, has no bus service to speak of and is poor for both cycling and walking. You could just chill out on the CL. Best to come stocked up but there is a Tesco Express, bakery, wine shop, fish & chip shop and ATM an easy and pleasant 15 mins cycle away in Poulner. Hockey’s farm shop is also a short walk away. The nearest supermarkets (Waitrose, Sainsbury and Lidl) are in Ringwood. The £25 cost of the CL includes use of a clean loo and coin operated shower for those that want it, TV point and 10 units of electricity which we found was enough. The charge per unit thereafter is currently 35p. Although the pitches are not fully serviced, fresh water and EHU points are within easy reach. There is one grey water and one black water disposal point. All sites have niggles and for us it’s car noise on Mockbeggar Lane but you get used to it and it lessens in the evening and at weekends. It would be a shame for this to put you off. The pitches are separated and screened from the Lane by a wide verge and thick hedge. Airview Farm is popular. If fully booked the nearby Furzehill Farm CL which is quieter and deeper into the Forest won’t disappoint but it doesn’t have a loo/shower or bus service and TV reception is poor. This NW quarter of the New Forest is a favourite of ours.
