Perfect CL

We've had two trips to this site, both in December when the Lakes are at there most dark, wet and drear. But this CL has ticked all the boxes on both occasions - fantastic views, easy access and set-up even in the dark, neat and tidy hard-standing, peace and solitude, good walks from the site and great pubs nearby. Looking forward to our next trip, hopefully in the summer when it'll be even better

Great CL amazing views

We finally managed to get up to the Lake District for a week and what a week - the weather was glorious aside from a couple of thunder storms but even this meant we had a spectacular light show to watch over Keswick. Unfortunately the flies came out with the good weather but this was not a site issue, more of a local area issue and it didn't stop us having a great time. The site is well kept and the owners are friendly - we are still enjoying the supply of double yolk eggs we brought back with us. The views over Blencathra and beyond are spectacular and this CL was a great base to get some more Wainwrights ticked off - Blencathra included. Even though it is just off the A66 - very easily accessed - there is no road noise. We can't wait to come back :-)

Eggsactly the ideal place to stay !!!

I have stopped at this site at least once a year for the last 20 years and never had a problem. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The view of Blencathra is exceptional and when you add that to the view down towards the peaks around Keswick you won't be disappointed. As others have said the eggs are a treat. Shower and toilet are clean. As with any working farm the owners are not there to be at your beck and call but more than happy to help if ASKED.Already booked in for 2020 and looking forward to it.

Ten days with outstanding scenery

We spent 10 nights at Askew Rigg in early October. Access is so easy Just off the A66. There is a little background traffic noise during the day but we were out most days so it wasn’t an issue. The view over Blencathra is outstanding. The site is so handy for exploring in all directions. There are 3 or 4 pubs within a couple of miles - I think we tried them all on our way home from days out exploring in the car. The pitches are all good and hard-surfaced, with individual dustbins very handy. The ground between pitches can get a bit soggy; how the owner still managed to mow the grass one day was unbelievable. Eggs are sold from a cupboard in the farmyard - they are huge, mostly double yolkers- there aren’t many eggs that you can share one between two people! Tv advice - use your aerial vertical for best signal. It was a bit temperamental in bad weather, but on the whole ok. We loved Askew Rigg and the northern Lake District - So beautiful - and Keswick market on a Saturday morning was a good find. There is no doubt You will enjoy your stay here.

Our first CL Site Stop - Perfect scenic location

This was our first CL site stop and we will definitely be returning. The views are truly amazing and the location is a great base for getting to Keswick and exploring the surrounding hills and walks. We only stayed three nights but wished it were longer, 2 adults, 2 children and a dog - we had a great day out walking the hills and then explored Keswick the next day, walking around the Derwent Water and the town. We stopped for a meal at the Mill Inn which is about a 1.5miles towards Mungrisdale - basically turn right out of the site entrance. The food is out of this world and the welcome for children and dogs was very nice too. The CL site itself is clean and tidy and all you would expect of a rural site. We had electric hook up and experienced no problems at all with it or the tv signal despite some rough weather. The facilities are clean and basic but not lacking, take some 20p coins for the shower and you'll be fine. Everything you need is there. All in all a great site, good value for money, in a truly beautiful location - :)

Amazing scenery

We are just coming to the end of a 4 day stay and have enjoyed our time at Askew Rigg Farm. We had a thorough and friendly welcome from owner Avril on arrival. This site looks out over Blencathra so the views are amazing. You are well placed to walk from the site on footpaths to the village of Scales from where you can walk to the summit of Blencathra. Our start and finish point was the White Horse Inn! Also well placed for drives into Keswick/Derwent Water. The shower/toilet room is fine. Kept well stocked and we had an excellent shower for 20p! At £12 per night for hard standing hook up and a view straight off a Lakes postcard it is excellent value.

Ideal for lakes and walkers.

Ideal for lakes and walkers. Easy to find from the directions given. All the time we stayed here for nearly 2weeks the owner did not make his self known we did not see him only when we had to go and find him to pay. Please note you do need movers to be able to position your caravan, you could do it without but it would take many moves because there is a wall directly opposite the five pitchers which are on a grass strip... PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU EMPTY YOUR TOILET WASTE THE EMPTYING POINT IS A MANHOLE COVER, WHEN YOU LIFT THIS OFF YOU LOOK STRAIGHT INTO A HUGE SMELLING CESSPIT, VERY DANGEROUS YOU COULD FALL IN ESPECIALLY AN ELDERLY OR YOUNG PERSON [I think health and safety would not allow this] there is a tap but no hosepipe to flush your cassette or to be able to wash any spillage away. (some members might think that this dose not matter.) When I spoke to the owner about this when I paid him, I was told that the caravan club inspector had advised them to remove the hose and the large opening in the cesspit was approved by the club and safe. This site is just off the A66 ideal to visit the lakes and for walkers.

winter break

We visited in January we love this area and it is our second visit to this CL the showers and toilet are cleaned daily and yes was a bit nippy when showering but they were adequate with hot water. The views are amazing with plenty of walk from the site itself. the owners are very friendly and eager to offer help. We will definitely be central location, great views and peaceful what more do you want

What a joy

We were a little unsure when we booked, because of the proximity to the A66. How wrong can you be. A beautiful little site with plenty of rubbish bins and re-cycling. There is a spacious shower (20p) which gives plenty of time for even hairwashing with a leisurely shower. The walking nearby is good , just a short ride down into Mungrisdale itself gives access to lots of fells. When we were there ,there was still some damage from storm Desmond (on the access to the fells) but that did not stop our enjoyment one little bit. If there was a slight negative it was only that when letting your four legged friend out for a last little walk at night he had to be on a lead, but that is to be expected on a farm site. We will certainly be back.

lovely site

Easy to get to. Beautiful views. Geese were funny watching them on the pond behind the caravan. Will definitely be back. Mr Bird was very helpful. Great walks straight off the site.
