Wiltshire sunsets

Lovely little CL on a country farm. NIce pitches, well trimmed grass and each pitch laid out with own water supply and EHU bollard. Excellent view over the valley.

Aldbourne

A friendly telephone exchange and on arrival in person equally so! The village is a 10 min walk max with a deli and two lovely pubs. The site is well kept and the scenery from the site is fab, £10 a night with elec is more than fair. Sunset out the back of my van made my day!

Great little place

Stayed here for 3 nights in early April. It's a small site, the pitches are a good size and there is EHU and water on each pitch. You can park where you want to, depending on what's available as the pitches are marked. The view is of open countryside. You're on top of a hill so it can get quite windy. Aldbourne is a lovely village in easy walking distance (uphill coming back). Coop, post office with a cafe and two pubs. At £10 it is excellent value. There does appear to be a 'resident' in a motorhome and he did play his music, very loudly one night until around 22:30. It didn't really bother us but it's worth mentioning. He also has a dog which he lets out unsupervised. Again, not a problem but it could be for some. If we were in the area we would stay again.

1/4 mile from Aldbourne village with its many facilities

This is now my favourite CL. Access was very easy and the site was quiet and spacious. The views are incredible and we enjoyed some beautiful sunsets. As mentioned by others we didn't come across the owners and couldn't find them, but paid an elderly gentleman in an adjoining cottage which he seemed accustomed to. The main reason we picked this site was so that we could cycle along the disused railway line from Ogbourne St George to Swindon which I highly recommend, although the cycle to and from Ogbourne St George has some quite challenging hills! We also did a 5 mile circular walk which started directly opposite the CL. The village has so much to offer - 2 pubs, a Post Office with an amazing deli, a CO-OP, library, grade 1 listed church and more. There are lots of refences to a Dr Who episode from the 1970s that was filmed in the village - I won't spoil it and tell you what they are, I'll let you discover them!

Stay ruined by one selfish (permanent?) dog owner

Great site, very well kept. facilities good. However, 1 camper (who may be a farm worker as he seems always to be there) thinks the field is his personal dog exercise space. Sending his dog past my van several times a day, even though he MUST know it upsets my dog

Happy Campers

Basic site which is pleasantly maintained and easily accessed. Each pitch has own water supply and electric facility with communal waste disposal and recycling centre. Lovely family who found time to chat while operating a busy working farm. Outstanding country views affording us peace and tranquility apart from 2 major storms, Ellen and Frances, but we survived. Excellent location for us as we have family nearby and will happily stay again. With the current COVID situation this site provided the ideal self contained and safe environment.

Lovely views, excellent walking

We had an impromptu stay for a couple of nights and loved the site and the area. The walking and local pubs are excellent. The farmer was very friendly and chatty and we were pleased they had made the extra effort to give each pitch its own tap. This is a certified site in the traditional sense. The owner is a working farmer, so you have to find him to pay. There are no frills - chem disposal is basic, but all you need. Recycling is clearly labelled. Grey waste went down the chem disposal hole! Good flat pitches with wonderful views. We hope to be back soon, and it's only half an hour from home for us, so an added bonus!

Pleasant Stopover

Nice pleasant site with good views. Facilities were good, and everywhere clean and tidy. Easy to find and a good stopover if travelling between Cornwall or S Wales and the East Coast. The only concern was the lack of owner and no means of payment. However, did manage to pay the lodger who was on her way out to work. I found this unusual, but it didn't cause any difficulty.

Pleasant Site

Found the site easily, however, would have been helpful if the CL sign was more obvious as we initially passed it & had to turn round! Nobody around to give us any advice so we parked where we thought we should in between two other caravans. View is amazing. Water tap easily accessible, lots of recycing & rubbish bins, and sanitary disposal accessible with water hose for flushing out. We stayed a week and the grass was not mown during that time although it was long in places. This did not bother us. Nobody came to see us and on leaving we put our money in a plastic bag and handed it to one of the girls, we assumed, was something to do with the farm. Is a very reasonable rate and the site suited us very well. Easy access to lots of good walking and to places of interest in the area. Two pubs in the village and a small Co-op, which is well stocked, as well as another shop/post office. Would return, but might try somewhere else when visiting Wiltshire.

A real gem of a site, no problems now!

The previous reviews seem very critical in the light of the current situation. There is a drinking water stand in the centre of the site and the waste disposal has a good lid with its own water supply. The grass is not unreasonably long, a bit whispy, but this is due to the very dry weather we have had recently. Other facilities for rubbish disposal are in the lower corner of the site. Generally a well kept site and friendly family owners.
