THE BEST CL IN THE AREA

We have family living locally, hence we have visited many nearby Certificated Locations over the years and know the area well.  We have been here for short breaks in the past, but having recently stayed for a prolonged three week period, feel able to state that this site really is consistently exceptional. The location is ideal, encompassing a feeling of having escaped to the wilds of the North York Moors, while still being an easy, quick drive (or cycle) to local amenities or attractions.  There are literally hundreds of miles of dedicated cycle tracks and footpaths winding through stunning scenery available directly from the CL. The site itself, from which stunning views abound, is spacious yet remains sheltered from the worst of any bad weather, whilst managing to maintain just the right balance between an authentic working farm and a relaxed, serene but exceptionally well maintained holiday location.  Finally, the owners manage a similar balance, always there to help, but never invasive in their attentions.  Additionally, the farmhouse abuts the entrance and overlooks the site, imparting a sense of security. We can confidently give our heartfelt recommendation for this CL and will definitely be returning for years to come.

Brillaint CL Bliss

We had a fabulous 6 days at Castlebeck farm. We have used many CL's over the years and find that this is certainly one of the best. The owners are warm and friendly, the site clean and grass mown and the views are to die for. We were on the top area , slightly sloping but not a problem. Lots of walking from the farm and many places to visit a short ride away. We cannot rate this CL, Kate and her family , not forgetting Rex the dog highly enough. We will certainly stay here if in the area again Jenny, Terry and Dusty

Heaven or Hell you decide

Situated central of Scarborough and Whitby, the site consists of 8 pitches, 1-5 are at the bottom of the field away from the farm, sadly when we were there we were over run with flies so we kept all windows shut and never erected the awning, we were not told on booking there is no coverage of TV,Phone, and limited radio reception, on pitches 1-5 and a very limited coverage on 6-8 pitches, This may be some peoples idea of heaven, but coupled with noisy kids it was Hxxx for us, The people who run the site were very laid back and nice and polite, Due to lack of resources we could not recommend this, I think that other reveiwees  should had incorporated this in theirs views,  We were slightly alarmed when a person was challenged one evening, by another caravanner as to his presence with a gun, he was told " i have been here for 20yrs carry on caravanning" and walked away,

Comment from The Club:

Many thanks for leaving a review. The CL owners have been in touch as they want to address your concerns as they work really hard to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time at their site.
As this is a farm site, a fully licensed, experienced and reputable professional is employed to control pests and vermin on the farm. The visits are few and far between, around 3 times a year, and this is not carried out anywhere near to the CL Site but on the farm itself. The CL owners have advised us that all safety precautions are adhered to.
The Site welcomes families. Please note, there are adult only CL Sites available on The Caravan Club network if you would prefer.
We are sorry to hear that you wouldn’t recommend the site based on there being limited facilities. We would just like to advise that there are no facilities listed on the CLs site page or in the Sites Directory & Handbook. As such people are aware before booking of what is available.
The site is in a wonderful location at a very reasonable price and as you can see from other reviews, it is a favourite place to stay for many who would highly recommend this lovely peaceful site in a superb location.

Away from it all

Surprised to find cl pictured in the photo was already full so we had to use an overflow area on the upper part of the site which did have a handy tap although the chemical waste was further away.  This area did require levelling arrangements but I believe the lower area would have been similar. Quiet site, friendly owners.  Lovely views, good access point for Whitby and Scarborough and the North York Moors railway.  Walking and cycling nearby.  Very windy when we were there end of May 2015 as was a lot of the country.

A delightful dale

My wife and I have been visiting Castlebeckfarm for many years, and have never failed to leave it without feeling better for the experience. From the first visit, the welcome from Ian and Katie has always been a warm one, and we have found the site a fine base for visiting North Yorkshire. Scarborough is not far away, as are the moors and the countryside. We have particularly enjoyed the wild life around us, and on our recent visit our bird table was visited by no less than 14 species, including the Great Spotted Woodpecker, the Nuthatch, and a flock of Goldfinches to name but a few. Harwood Dale deserves a visit if you have not been before, and once experienced, you are likely to return.

Regular Visitors

We have visited Castlebeck Farm every year for 23 years.  It is a peaceful site with great walks and lots of places to visit in the area. The owners are always very welcoming and friendly and we have Lovely eggs from Abigail. We have also built friendships with other caravan members during our stay, who are also regular visitors. We have travelled from Lands End to John O'groats  on caravan club sites and CL's for 42 years but always have a special time visiting Castlebeck Farm.  Who needs TV to look at while you have the Lovely views Spring or Autumn just through the window. Super.  Trevor and Christine.

Wonderful destination

What a great find. Lovely site situated in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Good facilities with plenty of room and wonderful views all around. Given a very warm welcome on arrival, especially by Abigail, who pointed out all the facilities to us and delivered fresh farm eggs to the caravan. We were told on booking that there is no TV reception, but for us, that is not a problem. You can get mobile phone reception in the farm yard. A great site for exploring the coast and the moors with plenty of good public footpaths. All in all, a great holiday destination, especially if you have dogs, and we will definately pay a return visit.

Lincolnshire smiths

Lovely site, friendly welcome from whole family. Eggs brought round in basket by eldest daughter who is polite and happy. Ian made our son's holiday with visit to the barn for sit on tractor n look at other farm vehicles. Gorgeous views of North Yorkshire moors and location perfect for exploring the north Yorkshire moors and coast. Will be returning even if for a weekend. We were disappointed with the lack of phone signal at first but then found it was great to get away from it all and you are in beautiful surroundings after all. Great board with information about the site especially about recycling and waste as you enter the site. Must visit the local mill Inn next time with Ian.  Thanks for hosting our fabulous holiday in north Yorkshire, we have lots of special and happy memories!

motor home stay

Nice people, however the site is at the bottom of a field with grass which has been roughly cut and left. The water tap is in the worst possible place surrounded by thick mud, and the toilet waste disposal is surrounded by stinging nettles. If you are unlucky enough to be in the first pitch adjacent to it you need to keep your windows closed, and dont even think of sitting out in the evening. we were advised that TV reception is poor. It is none existant, we couldnt even get the radio to work , and forget any notion of a phone signal. Conclusion. The site needs a lot of work to make it decent, there was 8 units on site and one of them is clearly there for the season. You could argue that it is only £10 a night without awning, but to my mind there are better locations  for the same amount of money.
