Perfect for us

We had 2 nights here as our first booking at a CL site as new club members. We loved it! So peaceful. We didn’t have time to visit Wymondham or the abbey or even the cafe at the farm. Site is 20 mins from the mainline station which is 15 min trip to Norwich. We will definitely be back.

A little gem!

What a little gem! An idyllic rural location but within easy walking distance to the beautiful Wymondham Abbey and pretty little historic market town of Wymondham itself. Friendly owner, David, who is happy to chat but respects your privacy and space. Spacious grassed site circling a cute little animal enclosure, currently home to Lucy the venerable old donkey, Pamela the goat (her faithful companion) and three rather sedate sheep! The fresh eggs, are delicious bought from the little shop sitting next to the tasteful little cafe and gift shop , both of which are very popular with campers and locals alike. Wymondham, lovely in its own right, certainly benefits from this tasteful little additional facility. A working farm so the occasional ‘scent’ in the air, and happy grunts and squeals at feeding time, but certainly not intrusive. A true sense of being enveloped in the country side. Will definitely berevisiting.

Wish we'd found this earlier :-)

Under Covid we've started to explore our more local CLs - This one is a delight! Oodles of space....just about shouting distance to any neighbouring caravans (although we were alone for our stay last week).....facilities simple and straightforward but fully functional (including obviously newly-upgraded 16a electric hookups). Ground gently undulating, but any proper caravanner will have a few planks for levelling and we didn't need any....normal Norfolk soil meant one or two awning pegs needed repositioning to avoid flints, but pitching was nowhere near as difficult as the average CAMC hardstanding! Grass sufficiently cut, without being so over-manicured that I was scared to drive over it :-) Extremely friendly welcome from our non-intrusive hosts and otherwise left to our own devices, with everything necessary clearly signed and marked - perfect! Yes, with the wrong wind direction there is some detectable smell from the pigs across the way (but it's a working farm, so no surprises there :-) ) To be fair, detectable would indicate a north-westerly, which is not that common hereabouts. Never heard the chickens at all despite there being thousands of them just up the next field behind the trees. Their produce, however, is as fresh as it gets and available 12 hours a day at the eggery, adjacent to the gloriously quirky coffee shop run by Annabelle, who bakes the most delicious cakes. All this within 150 yards walk of the CL. The adjacent paddock houses Lucy the donkey & Pamela the goat, who are also friendly enough, but give off the air of "seen you lot all before" so really don't care whether you talk to them or not :-) 5 mins stroll from the site is Mid Norfolk Railway's Wymondham station and 1 min further is Wymondham Abbey and the delightful town, with a pleasant walk along the riverside as an option next to the railway crossing. Oh yes, we'll be back.....just hope a positive review doesn't mean we can't get a pitch next time :-)

We keep coming back

We have visited this site a number of times and enjoy coming back. There are only two negatives that I can see and that is the flies as previously mentioned and the smell of the pigs when the wind blows in a certain direction, but given that this is a working farm you would expect it and for us wasn't a problem. The site is approached via a long sweeping drive and when you reach the CL the area is large with plenty of space and the animals are great for the children to see. The owners are very friendly and accommodating and there is the option to buy fresh free range eggs and preserves for the Hen Shed in front of the Farmhouse. The town of Wymondham is only a few minute's walk and would suit motorhomes as the bus stop is within walking distance too. I would certainly recommend this site for both couples and families.

weekend escape

if you are here for a weekend or week you will always be welcome. yes this is a working farm (hard working) the family are lovely, theres a lovely coffee place with a different where you can have a chap with the locals and eat home made cake, theres fresh eggs and jam from the nicely painted sheds.  wymondham is just a short walk passed the abbey you must take the time and pop into the abbey, you can catch the train or bus into Norwich. we have been stopping here for the last 10 years and we come 2-3 times a year and we will be back.

A perfect place to visit

We have stayed here so many times, it was almost our second home..with easy access to clean level spacious pitches. Good for walking, cycling ect, the little town a short walk away, take time to visit the beautiful abbey and heritage steam railway. On the Cl are the freshest eggs you can buy, and a quant cafe, run by the lovely Annabel. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners David and Julie. Be aware this lovely site is a working farm, so please respect this keeping your dog on a lead, and an eye on your children (who are made very welcome, I hasten to add).

Flies, flies and more flies!

Visited August 2015 When is a CL not a CL?  There were 5 available pitches near each other which we assume were for the CL, adjacent to the small animal enclosure;  however across the field next to the hedge was another caravan which seemed to be permanent and higher up the field were three more, including one which was permanently stored there.  We all appeared to use the same water supply and chemical toilet emptying point. As with previous reviews the flies were an absolute menace.  Pigs were in a big shed adjacent to the field, although we could not see them.  However at certain times of the day, possibly feeding, you could certainly hear them squealing.  I know this is a working farm, however we never saw the owners and everyone was left to their own devices.  There were notices about keeping dogs on leads and not fouling the field, but this obviously does not apply to the owners, who let their own dog run loose in the field and fouled the area in front of the vans. Admittedly they did clear it up when complained to but that is not the point.  The good points were that it was only a 5 minute walk into Wymondham, with bus links to Norwich etc.  The steam railway is two minutes walk along the lane and the Abbey only a few yards further on.  The owners were so busy with the cafe, shop etc., that we had no contact and had difficulty finding someone to pay when we left.  One couple on the site at the same time as us, left two days early because they could not stand the fies any longer. It may be that the CL pitches are downwind of the flies, as they are close to the the animal enclosure and the other pitches on the other side and at the top of the field were not so affected. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Returned after 30 years

Always remembered this site from 30 years ago as it was very difficult to put pegs into the ground - no change there then. No decent views from the site but walks available into the country. Electric hook-ups adjacent to the small animal enclosure and therefor a strong 'countryside aroma' existed perfect for the many flies . When I stayed, there were 9 units on site and due to the uneven land surface were well spread out apart from hook-ups. Pity other users allowed dogs off lead. May return in another 30 years !!! but doubt it.

Nice site but.....

Stayed on this CL for a long weekend. The pitches are not level so you will need some ramps but its a nice peaceful site considering its on a working farm. There is a field of sheep and another area behind the pitches which is home to hens, goats & a donkey, which the kids loved. As mentioned in previous review, there are a lot of flies but this would not stop me staying at this site again, i would just go armed with fly spray. Site owners are very friendly with a lovely cafe on site.
