Weekend stay in rain

We arrived on site to a chorus of thunder and lightening and heavy rain! No-one about or other caravans on site pitches a bit boggy although hard standing lots of moss which soaked up water so it was like walking on a sponge. Decided to walk to Crossings Pub which is just opposite site thinking they were owner, found out they were not. Did have a nice chat and pint and discovered they sold meals and also did carry-outs. Food was pleasant pub grub, particularly goodd meaty cumberland sausage. Site owner turned up later that evening for collection of fees and was very pleasant. Facilities clean but tired, rather faded signs on site, pretty display of annuals. Nearby attractions of local abbey which had a particular nice tea room and Birdoswald fort part of Hadrians wall. Enjoyed peace and tranquilty OK for a weekend better when ground dries up. Perhaps another layer of gravel plus moss killer would help!
