A little Gem of a site

Upon arrival up the lane we were greeted by Ann who directed us to our pitch and walked down to make sure we were all set up and level. She took time to chat about her site which was lovely and explained the electric usage. She was ever so engaging and spent time telling us about nearby walks and places of interest. We were there over Bonfire weekend with our little dog, trying to escape the fireworks in the middle of the countryside. Alas, there was a short firework blast coming from a few miles away, but only lasted twenty / thirty mins so did not spoil what was a very relaxing three nights and we walked up the lane to the moor which provided amazing views of Pendle Hill and the whole area, just breathtaking. The facilities here are perfectly functional. There is one shower, one toilet and a sink with a fresh towel replaced daily. They are spotlessly clean, no heating in there, but it's a working farm and they've done a great job to create a very friendly, peaceful site. The Elson point was clean and had attached piping from the tap to help wash out your cassette. Bins are there for your re-cycling too. All in all we had a very enjoyable stay and can't wait to return in the warmer months next year. Thanks ANN, it was great!

A lovely couple of days

Friendly and helpful welcome . Beautifully maintained grounds. Very peaceful and quiet. Views across to Pendle Hill. Great walks up onto the moor, complete with hares and a barn owl, or down to local villages. So much to like. I hope to be back. Thank you Ann.

A CL we hope to return to.

We’ve just returned from a two week stay at Drake House Farm Cl, nr Clitheroe, Lancashire. Drake House Farm Cl is approached down a long single width drive. You can arrive after one pm. It has five hard standing pitches, all fully serviced, including a grey water drain. There is a toilet and shower on site. We use our own facilities, but I did pop for a look. They are basic, but clean. Fast Broadband included and it was fast! Ann, the owner is helpful and friendly. She greets you on arrival and takes you to your pitch where you can confirm the meter reading with her. Currently, ten units per night are included in the price. We averaged eight units a night. Great view from the site and it was one of the quietest sites we have stayed at. Dogs are allowed, but do need to be kept on a lead. This is a working farm and there are sheep in the field next to the CL. We were fortunate to have 80% fabulous weather and the other 20%, we did think about building an Ark! We are members of English Heritage, The National Trust and Historic Houses. There were plenty of places to visit in the area and further afield. Bolton Abby, Clitheroe Castle, East Lancs Railway, Skipton Castle, Ribchester Roman baths and Museum are amongst the places we visited whilst there. They are walks from the site and within the area. It’s a site we will return to in the future.

a gem

If you want a warm welcome with great views this is the site. Yes the approach is tight just take care. Yes facilities are rustic but clean. Good walks from the site including lovely villages & pubs. We cycled into Clitheroe where the sausage shop is a must. Watching the kestrels & curlews was an added bonus. Thanks Ann I'm sure we will be back.when it's not so hot!!

A great weeks stay

What a wonderful site, from beginning to end. Lovely welcome from Ann on arrival and was always there for advice on day trips out. The site is fully Serviced with big pitches and panoramic views which are to die for!! All you could hear were birds and owls ( no road traffic noise at all) Very dog friendly our border collie Alfie was in 7th Heaven with all the walks from the site and beyond . Don't normally write reviews because we like to keep our hidden gems to ourselves but this site is an exception. Also thank you for mending our sun chair that broke on the first day lol. Will definitely return John DIane Alfie

A great Easter stay

Just spent Easter here at Drakes Cross Farm. What a beautiful place. We were on pitch 3 which had great views of Pendle Hill. Saying that all pitches have great views. Fully serviced pitches made for easy caravanning. Pitches we all of a good size and not on top of each other. Ann was a great host. She shows a great pride in her CL and gave us a warm welcome. When ever we saw her she was always up for a chat and was happy to share her knowledge of the local area. From the site we followed the footpath down the side of the cottage and walked along the river. There are lots fo walks from the site. The tarmac track up to the site is a great place to exercise the dogs. We saw hares, and Curlews and a beautiful Roe deer whilst exercising the dogs on this track. We would reccomend the Walks with Taste trails which are walks that start and end at a pub. We enjoyed the walk fromthe Calfs Head which is about 10 minutes away from the site. The pub does great food. There are 2 dog friendly pubs within in 5 minutes driving distance from the site. The CL has a shower and toilet, which is basic but very clean if you do not want to use on board facilities. The Elsan point was clean and easy to use. The whole site is immaculate and well worth a visit as if like us it is your first visit to the area. Thank you Ann for your hospitality and a great stay. The Salters

Wet weekend

Lovely peaceful site. Approach rather tricky in places ,but ok as long as you take your time. Lovely setting. Facilities basic but clean. Cannot comment on the hosts, as we didn't see them!, rather disappointing, maybe they were busy.

Very peaceful

We were only able to stay for 1 night on this occasion due to work commitments. We were welcomed by Ann who explained all site facilities and was there if we needed her. The site is best approached using directions from the sites own website and not using those on the caravan clubs cl page which are at best confusing. As another reviewer has said, just take your time. Pitches are fully serviced, with EHU, water tap and grey waste. The toilet disposal area puts many CAMC sites to shame. There is also a toilet, shower and information area all included in the nightly fee. We were surrounded by beautiful scenery and peace and quiet and will be back to stay for longer next time.

Nice quiet site

Just spent 7 nights on this lovely quiet site. We were on pitch 5, and once set up, it felt like we were the only people there, even when all pitches were in use. The site felt very secure with gate and cameras at entrance.A warm welcome from Ann who is often around to answer any questions without being intrusive. EHU (20 units average per night included), water and drainage to each pitch with free wifi. Basic but adequate toilet and shower with lots of info about local area and lovely views across to Pendle Hill. Walks directly from site, and a nice long driveway to take dogs up first thing in morning and last thing at night. There is a narrow bridge and the approach through village can seem daunting when reading some reviews, but honestly its not a problem, just take your time and its not a problem.

A perfect stay

Had a wonderful 4 day stay at Drake House Farm. Ann is the perfect host. She gave us a great cheery welcome and was very informative about the site and area. The pitches are spacious and have fantastic views. We didn’t need the facilities but they were clean and fresh. There is an information table with all the leaflets for places of interest and walks in the area. We were there for walking and that’s what we did every day from the site. From hill walking to tramping along the River Ribble it’s perfect and we will be back to do some more. The villages of Waddington and West Bradford are nearby both with pub eateries and Clitheroe is a couple of miles away. A really great spot for a peaceful stay. Thank you Ann
