Slightly confused arrival

Just had 4 days at this lovely CL. 8.5m max outfit. 4 grass pitches, 3 hardstanding. Ehu, water and electric car charging point at each pitch. Views over North York Moors Railway. Electric paid separately in units of £5 - which was enough for our weekend. Refunds can be given if bank details left or else the owner donates to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We didn't leave details. The grassed area, though lovely, is not very wide so would need some clever pitching if all 4 pitches were to be used at any one time - especially with awnings. I booked over the internet and didn't get a confirmation email, but a quick email to Chris confirmed our booking had gone through. We weren't, however, given a pitch allocation and on arrival the pitch allocation board was empty anyway. It was obvious that pitches 1 and 2 were hardstanding - and we later saw that the hardstanding pitch just passed the entrance had been given pitch no 5A, however none of the grass pitches were marked. As we had stipulated that we were to be putting up an awning we made for the grassed pitch in the corner nearest the recycling. Not long after our arrival a caravan with a pitch allocation turned up, as well as a lady who was staying next door. She knew the owner and a little about the site. As Chris was out for lunch she helped as much as she could and suggested we chose our own pitches. So we stayed where we were. Each pitch should have had the £5 electricity added to the meter - but the pitch we were on was the only pitch to have electric at that time. When Chris arrived it transpired that the electric on our pitch had not been cleared from the previous occupant. The £5 was later added by payment card - which are all held by the owner. I have given the site a 4 star rating because of this confusion, but I am sure all these niggles will be ironed out once the CL has been running for longer. I have also given the peace and tranquility 4 stars, as unfortunately a neighbouring farm half a mile away was having a weekend of wedding celebrations that went on until 3am on the Fri and Sat mornings. Chris wasn't very happy when he heard and was most apologetic and promised to look into it further. Other than that the Thurs night was very peaceful and I am sure that ordinarily that is the case. The drive over motorhome waste was not best placed - thankfully we have a hose attachment - other than that some motorhomes may end up obstructing the entrance in order to empty. In the local area the Cinder Track cycle path from Whitby to Scarborough can be accessed about 3 miles down the road and the Falling Foss waterfall can be walked to from the campsite following the public footpath immediately across the main road and following signs to Littlebeck and thence to Falling Foss (8 mile max round trip). All in all we would recommend the site and once all the teething problems are ironed out we are sure it will do really well.

Superb new CL site

Booked this site due to location- also being able to check availability and pay in advance online is excellent! Very easy access to site- with clear directions. On arrival, our pitch had been allocated. Took a few minutes to work out best position for the caravan, but easy to pitch. Stunning view, totally level hard standing and water, electric (and EV charging point if required) on pitch. A very quiet, adult only site, with stunning views down into the Esk valley- on a good day you can easily see steam trains chugging along the NYMR to Whitby. An absolutely fabulous site, with an owner who responds really quickly to any email. The site will mature as the landscaping becomes less harsh, but the owner clearly knows what makes a good site, with brilliant grey and Elsan disposal, waste and recycling bins- and a communal terrace soon to open overlooking the Esk valley. Can’t wait to come back again.

Fabulous site

This is a fabulous site. We spent 3 very peaceful nights here. Being able to check availability and book online via the site’s website was very handy. Excellent facilities for the price. There’s a board with names and allocated pitch numbers displayed at the gate on arrival. Our name wasn’t on the board but the owner was on site to meet us and personally directed us to our pitch. As the site is situated on the hillside it is protected from the wind by high hedges but the owner has cut slots into the hedge for each pitch so that the spectacular views can be enjoyed from your van. We enjoyed a lovely dinner at The Plough pub which is only a 10 minute walk from the site. A drive to Whitby took 15 minutes and the North Yorks Moor National Park is right on your doorstep to explore. We would highly recommend this site.

Ticks all the boxes

Booked as spur of moment when struggled to get in at our usual sites elsewhere on a busy Bank Holiday weekend. The site is new and located on a working sheep farm just outside the village of Sleights. Lovely area with great views although these were somewhat obscured by tall hedgerows from the actual pitches. Very easy to book from their website. Good price for the facilities provided. The 3 grass pitches and 3 hardstanding each have their own electric and water point. There is a bin and recycling point, along with elsan and motorhome drive over waste point. Note that electric is charged in units of £5, not per day. A nice touch is that the owner offered to refund our unused electric or donate to Air Ambulance which we did. A slow walk into Sleights took about 25 mins, although pub and fish shop less than 10 mins away. Great base for exploring Whitby and surrounding areas. Will definitely be staying again, many thanks.
