Amazing site, welcome, location & owners

Our first stop at this site and it certainly won’t be the last we could not find anything negative about our lovely holiday staying at Greetham Retreat. We had a lovely friendly & informative welcome from the owners Rob & Jeanette, nothing was too much trouble throughout our stay. The pitches are perfect and extremely well maintained and have lovely views overlooking the Wolds. Extremely clean facilities with ample cleaning & Covid precautions at all times. It’s location for exploring the wonderful Lincolnshire Wolds and the use of many public footpaths close by is excellent. We had many a wonderful evening watching the sunsets whilst enjoying a glass or two of wine sat by the little lake watching all the wildlife also enjoying the facilities, which included listening to the resident Barn Owl which was a delight. This is a CL site that is definitely worth a visit or two and is one of the best sites we have ever had the pleasure of staying on. I really don’t believe anyone could find fault with this site for anything it was a truly lovely and memorable holiday so thank you so much Rob & Jeanette. Clive & Lynda

Mixed review.

We originally booked this CL for 2 stays this summer . I booked early in the year and was charged £80 deposit, £40 for each stay. In April I emailed to say we would no longer be able to make the end of June booking and asked if the £40 deposit on that booking could be moved over to the Aug booking providing they could re let our pitch . I had an immediate reply saying absolutely not -- no refund of deposits under any circumstances for any reason as they had already lost too much due to covid ( or words to that effect) and basically we lost £40 even though they immediately re booked the pitch ( i checked ). Had they not been able to re book it we would of course have under stood their rule but its a very popular CL with rarely a vacant pitch ( they also have several holiday cottages on site its quite a big concern) We arrived for our August stay and the positives are the site is lovely and has a great dog walking area. The negatives sadly are the site owner and his attitude. Over our stay we heard him talk down ( and shout ) at 2 different elderly people who dared to park on or almost on his grass even though a dry day and zero damage done . We felt worried all through our stay as his verbal list of do's and don'ts re exercising our dog or parking just made us uncomfortable every time we saw him . He seemed to enjoy the power he had as site owner . The site is however in a lovely area and handy for us but we wont return im afraid.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for you review. The CL owners have been in touch to clear up any misunderstanding as they always do their utmost to ensure guests have the best time with them and help members staying with them. They were sorry to hear that you had cancelled your stay with them in April as you had booked another holiday but hope you had a great time.

The CL Site asks for non-refundable and non-transferable deposits for all advanced pitch bookings, which they make every guest fully aware of when initially booking and paying deposits. The reason they take deposits is the high number of cancellations and no shows, that they have previously suffered when not taking deposits. When a cancellation occurs, it is not just about selling the pitch again, there is a cost involved for the CL Site to carry out everything required to process your initial booking, then deal with the cancellation, remarketing, and hopefully selling the pitch again. The paperwork and administration involved is quite significant and time consuming. However, please be assured they do consider each cancellation on its individual merits and take account of the circumstance.

With regards to your comment about the CL Site being 'a big concern', they would like to reassure this is not the case. They are a husband and wife team who do everything to maintain, run and clean the holiday cottages, CL Site, the grounds, the website, and all the administration involved. They are also available and on call for guests 24/7 all year round and do their utmost to ensure guests have the best possible time when staying with them. They do not have staff and take great pride in offering a quality product at a reasonable price in a professional manner.

Please be assured the other guests you mentioned were not threatened and were only being advised on where best to pitch. They had a friendly conversation to help the guests pitch correctly and these guests told the CL owners at the end of their stay that they had a lovely holiday and are arranging to come back again very soon.

Excellent C.L Site

Ist time to this excellent site. The hosts have put so much in to this site and thought of everything. The directions to the site were spot on. The pitches were of a good size with lovely views. The toilet / shower room excellent. Once we has settled in Rob came and found us and gave us plenty of useful information on the local area. We would highly recommend this site and hopefully be back again. All the best . John & Helen pitch no 4

Comfortable friendly site

Extremely well organised site with clear pre arrival information and good directions. 5 pitches all level and spacious, however pitch 1 with the best view, is very near the elsan and water point. Owner went out of his way to show us local dog walks and make sure we had everything we needed. Grounds are beautifully landscaped but there can be a lot of people using them if the holiday cottages are also fully booked. Covid restructions meant that we were not seeing the facilities of this site at their best as access to the award winning public areas was not possible. We had a good stay and would recommend the site.

Absolutely Lovely

I am not a great reviewer of sites but this site is one of the nicest CLs we have stayed on as attested by the high number of positive reviews.. It is in a lovely spot with great walks around. The owners called us beforehand to tell us what pitch we were on and visited us to check all was well. The grounds were lovely, really well maintained, with long distance views. Oh and the included wifi was the fastest I have experienced; puts the offering on most clubsites to shame. I was sorry we only booked for two days.

Take a deep breath and enjoy

This was my first time away in my van with my two dogs and it was an excellent site to choose. Very easy parking on level pitches with plenty of space to breath between the other units. The site is situated in a nicely sheltered and landscaped spot with lots of trees and a small woodland plantation for those early morning and last evening walks with the dogs. I didn't use all the facilities but those I did use were very well set out and clean. The owner was not intrusive but very friendly and helpful, giving clear instructions regarding Covid issues. Obviously being situated in the Lincolnshire Wolds there are good walks to be had and lots of local interest with the area's most famous son being the Poet Alfred Lord Tennyson who was born at Somersby Rectory and among other local things he wrote about the Babbling Brook, this being the River Lymn which meanders it's way around the area. I wind about, and in and out, with here a blossom sailing, And here and there a lusty trout, And here and there a grayling As Pop Larkin would say Perfik - thank you

Outstanding CL

This is the best CL we have stayed on due to the beautifully landscaped grounds, the facilities provided (WC and shower were very clean and warm) along with the ability to use the laundry (much appreciated on a 2 week stay). There is also a very good information room and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. We had a pitch with good views of the rolling countryside and were able to walk directly from the site (local walks are in the information room that can be borrowed). The location was ideal as c.20 mins to the coast, 30 mins to Lincoln and other lovely towns. Horncastle is a short drive away with its abundance of antique and coffee shops and 2 small supermarkets (Tescos and Coop). We will definitely be back and may even bring friends and family.

5 Stars doesn't do the CL, or the owners, justice! We would have awarded 10/10

Easy access to the site – follow the Caravan & Motorhome directions to the site’s gated entrance. There is sufficient room to park-up a twin axle caravan and car without obstructing the approach road. On entry the CL is immediately on the right – look out for the notice board with your allocated pitch number. The CL hardstanding pitches each have 16 amp electric hook up points, are all flat and level and, unusually, each have a paved area where caravan utilities (Aquaroll etc.) are placed. Each pitch has sufficient room for a large twin axle caravan, awning and car which should be sited on the gravel. Note: Groundsheets are not permitted on the adjacent grass areas to prevent damage. There is free, excellent WiFi connection and a fenced area set aside for waste disposal and recycling. For security the site has CCTV to monitor those entering / leaving the site. Within the extensive grounds there is a large lake, a modern building housing an excellent information point, book exchange, launderette, toilet and showers. Within this complex there is also separate accommodation – ideal for family and friends who wish to join their caravan / motorhome friends. There are also walks both on and adjacent to the site. During our stay we had the pleasure of seeing a family of geese on the site’s lake and barn owls on several occasions Rob and Jeanette made our stay such a pleasurable experience and were only too pleased to recommend places that were tailored to our particular interests. These included places to visit such as nature reserves, aviation / aerodromes, local beaches and excellent local pubs with very reasonable priced meals and pleasant staff. The site and its facilities are truly first-class and both Rob and Jeanette should be commended for their efforts – it is unsurprising that they have been awarded several prestigious awards including that of a ‘CL of the year’ winner. We certainly rank this as being one of the very best CL’s we have visited and we will certainly be returning to at some time. We cannot recommend the CL and Rob and Jeanette highly enough.

Lived up to expectations!

Spent a week at this beautiful CL over the Bank Holiday period. The site was simple to find- thanks for the comprehensive instructions- and to our delight we were pitched at the bottom of the hill next to the services with a super big area of grass behind and to the side to catch the sun! The site is so well kept and the facilities are spotless. The dogs loved the mown paths between the trees for their early/ late walks too. It's a very quiet area with no noise at night apart from the owl which my partner spotted one evening. It was delightful to watch the two families of wild geese walking their offspring around the site. They seemed to grow in the week we were there! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will be back when we are next in this area.

A great CL

We have just come back from a week at Greetham Retreat (our second visit) - we think the site is fab in terms of peace, tranquillity, facilities and lovely hosts. The site is very well placed for visiting the Lincolnshire Wolds (both North and South); a short drive to both the coast and Lincoln (well under an hour for both) - we shall be back here - Julie and Rhiannon
