Ideal location for nature lovers

We have just returned from a week at this extremely pretty site. We had the pleasure of being the only vehicle for most of the week so enjoyed all the animals visiting and resident. The site is so quiet despite all the animals that seemed to respect visitors and did not wake us. The walk from the site to the local shop takes you past the house where you can appreciate the beauty of the river that flows under it. I fell in love with the location immediately. The 2 toilets (one disabled) and shower (wet room) have been carefully designed with an attractive gated entrance through a trellis arch. The path is fine and the facilities are large and perfectly fine. Remember we are camping in a field which is only open 8 months of the year, not a four star hotel. The shower is free not chargeable that many are now and is very hot. For the location, array of animals, the peace and quiet and the friendly owner I believe it to be a very good CL.

Poor showers and toilets

Recently stayed here, harry greeted us and showed us our pitch. the pitch was ok, slightly uneven and grass needed cutting. We had a lovely stay as we made the best of things, but we wouldn’t return due to the showers and toilets. They are in desperate need of a tidy up. Green algae on walls, toilet bin not emptied throughout our stay. They are situated in a wooden shed with very uneven slabs heading down to them.

Disappointed

This site is in a lovely position with a very friendly owner Harry. The pitches are part gravel part mud and very uneven, and no clear outline as it is over grown. The shower and the toilet cubicles are run down with green algae in the shower that was not touched in the week we stayed there along with general cleaning, the communal toilet was cleaned but not the disabled toilet, and the floors are not. We expected rustic but this is really not on, as basic cleaning and maintenance could make a huge difference. During the day all you can hear is the shot blasting from the alloy wheel repair garage 50 yards away. I cannot believe this site is inspected by the club as they would surely not have it advertised. This sounds a harsh review but I think there will be a lot of people disappointed if they come here, we travelled 4 hours and refused to allow these points to spoil our holiday.

Close to Nature

We have had a very peacefull stay at this site, sitting outside the caravan and then wandering down to watch the ducks swans and other wildlife was very enjoyable. The approach to the site is quite daunting you wonder if you are making a mistake and will have a problem turning around, but then after 150 yards of stone track it reverts to a tarmac drive. Most modern caravans are now all equipped with good facilities so be aware the very rustic shower here my not suit you, albeit the toilets were kept clean but a broom attack on the cobwebs might have helped, and a spray onto the shower room wall might have removed the green algae. The hangers in the shower room were adequate but you could not stop the spray wetting your clothes. The grey waste disposal point was far too high ie three bricks for easy use forcing you to have to lift the container, which can get very heavy if full, a little thought put into a ramp would be welcome. Would possibly return if we knew that the admendments had been attended to.

This CL deserves a higher rating!

Hawkhill Mill Farm is in very many ways a perfect CL. It has almost all of the facilities one could want and it has a helpful owner. It is in a lovely sheltered spot, well away from noisy roads, the only sounds being wild birds, ducks, turkeys and geese. There are great walks through woods and along the river and quiet lanes for cycling. I would give it a higher rating if that were possible.

Turkey Chatter

Only here for 1 night, but I would definitely return. Just as a CL should be, beautiful spot by the mill pond, spacious camping field and a perfectly adequate shower & toilets. The sound of the turkeys chatting is an unusual surprise but certainly not intruding. Lots of walks directly from the site without going on to roads. I just had one worriesome moment when turning into the lane as there is a Max 2m width sign. All is ok though as that is further down the lane than the turning into the farm.

Charming

Have just spent the weekend at this delightful site, what a beautiful, quiet CL, its always a nice feeling to find somewhere that is on the door step (30 miles) that you can escape the stresses of life. This working farm (which we love) comes with all sorts of animals, birds and yes the turkeys which everyone mentions. It has a slight slope but if you are a prepared motorhomer/caravanner this shouldn't be a problem. We had taken onboard the comments about the drive, this has now been repaired and there is no problem for access. Lovely friendly owner who welcomed us on arrival. Showers and toilets basic and clean, if you want all singing then go to a Clubsite !! Plenty of walks from your pitch without going on any roads. No negatives from us !!

Relaxing stay

What a find, a lovely site and just what we needed. We love these CL sites especially when they are a working farm, you know exactly what you are going to get and good value. We didn't have a problem with the drive up the lane.

Peaceful CL

Recently stayed here for 8 nights, peaceful with no road noise just the sounds of the turkeys, geese and ducks. Site is gently sloping and the lower pitches tend to get quite wet after rain. All pitches have electric hook up but could do with weeding and topping with some fresh shingle as could the site road. The toilets and shower are basic but clean and adequate. The access road to the farm is narrow and unfortunately has some large potholes in it which cannot be avoided when towing your caravan. With a little time and money spent to upgrade the access road and the facilities this could be a great cl.
