Fantastic site.

What an absolutely pristine and lovely site. From booking which was professional and straightforward with promptly answered emails and immediate invoice and acknowledgment of payment received by Sam, to the welcome from Mark when we arrived on site. Superb hardstanding pitch with exclusive water, EHU and grey waste drainage. The pitch was perfectly level with a good sized area of grass alongside the hardstanding. Mark kindly sorted us some hose to connect to the drain. The Elsan and recycling enclosure were absolutely spotless with clearly marked bins for separated recycling. Approach to the site was excellent and having the coded gate made for a really secure area. An absolute bonus was the stunning sunrise and sunset, just the icing on the cake. Thank you both for a most relaxing and comfortable stay. Will definitely return.

Perfect Location

Such a great find! The perfect location to explore North Devon, the site is well maintained and clean. Mark and Sam were great hosts and a great source of information. If you want to explore the beautiful Devon scenery and Exmoor, then this is the place. Would definitely recommend the site and will be returning in the future.

Amazing CL

This was our third visit to this site. Sam and Mark were extremely friendly and helpful as ever. The site is nice and quiet with lovely rural views and clean facilities. The site is perfectly situated to visit the coast around Combe Martin, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. We used it as a base to walk a good stretch of the South West Coast Path from Lynton to Barnstaple. We used Mark's caravan repair services for a small repair on our last visit which was very professionally done. We will definitely be returning to this site again.

Fabulous site great owners

This is a great site. Mark and Sam are welcoming and friendly. This is a good location for Exmoor especially Lyndon, Ilfracombe and getting to Lundy island. We found the site a special place to stay. We plan to return. We were well looked after and stayed for 7 nights. I think it is one of the best places and friendly places to stay. We are staying 100 nights on this trip April to end July 2021, and this is a Jen.

Excellent

Higher Twitchen is one of the best CL’s we have stayed on. Booking was a pleasure, as Sam is very organised – we liked the confirmation emails and proper invoicing. Site security is very good as the site has a coded entry for the gate. The field slopes very slightly but pitching was easy. The site is well laid out and well maintained. Sam and Mark are excellent hosts, not intrusive but friendly and readily available if needed. The location is very good for easy access to Combe Martin, Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth and Clovelley. Having read the single poor review below I feel I have to state that I found none of the issues the reviewer raised applied in our case. We had an excellent one week stay, and would not hesitate to return.

A wonderful first experience of caravanning

This was our first outing with our newly acquired caravan and we definitely picked the right site to start off our caravan adventures. Before even arriving Sam was very responsive to our queries and communications. On arrival Sam was there to greet us, show us to our allocated pitch and offer any assistance needed. We managed (unaided) to unhitch and level the caravan perfectly within 20 mins (even using a spirit level to get it exactly right!) on this lovely quiet and spacious site. We even managed to pitch our new inflatable awning after we had mastered the vague instructions. Both Sam and Mark were very friendly and welcoming and were often around to advise us on local information. Mark is also a caravan engineer which could have proved very useful if we had had a problem with the caravan (which we did not!). Directions and access to the site were excellent, being just off a main road and the site was very secure with a coded entry. The location was generally very peaceful, being surrounded by fields, animals and beautiful rural views, where we slept very well for 4 nights. The site was very well maintained with new facilities close to hand, well-kept grass pitches and was ideally situated for us to use as a base to walk a good section of the South West Coast Path. In short we had a fantastic stay at this lovely CL that is as beautiful and welcoming as it appears on the website. We will definitely be returning to this site again.

Disappointed

Disappointed with this CL for a few reasons. 1. On arrival we struggled with the pitch allocated as it was sloping in two directions and impossible to get the awning to peg down. The caravan nose was on the ground and back legs fully extended. No one was home and neither phone number was answered when I called for advice re moving pitch. We attempted pitching three times then moved to the next pitch (4 pitches were empty). When the owner arrived home he said we couldn’t have the pitch we had chosen as it has been allocated for the following day, he somewhat grudgingly agreed for us to move another pitch saying he hadn’t had a complaint about the sloping field before. So after a 4.5 hour drive and 5 attempts to set up we finally unpacked. 2. We enjoy a good sunset but the view was spoiled by the industrial metal shed. 3. Dog friendly? Well that depends- yes they accept dogs and yes there is a walk around the field - with an electrified fence. There’s nowhere to let a dog exercise off lead. 4. Road noise and farm machinery spoil the tranquility we hoped for. 5. Uncollected grass cuttings were a real nuisance when wet - they stuck in clumps to shoes and paws and transferred into the caravan. 6. At no point did Sam bother to say hello to us - despite riding a horse opposite us every day. 7. Due to a family crisis at home on day 4 we had to leave, having paid for 7 nights we were refused any refund despite explaining the circumstances. I’ve read the glowing reviews on here and cannot believe we stayed at the same place, we had a very different experience. Horses for courses I guess. On a positive note - The horses were beautiful as was the morning sunrise view.

Fab u lus

Our second, albeit brief, visit to Higher Twitchen CL. This time we had sunshine 🌞 It's an added bonus, but doesn't change the facts...... They have a wonderful site, with all you need. Adult only, dog friendly, with recycling facilities and water close to hand. Very easy access but far enough from main road so no traffic noise. Peace, quiet and beauty surrounds you. Sam and Mark (who happens to be a caravan engineer!) are fab hosts, on hand if needed, and always happy to help. We love this CL and will be back for another stay soon. A credit to the Caravan & Motorhome Club and the perfect CL 🙂

LOVELY !

Excellent site, easy access and good views. Stunning beaches nearby, ideal for coastal walks. Warm welcome from the owner. Gated entrance, so very secure. One of the best CL's w have stayed at. Unfortunately the weather wasn't kind to us, but we plan to return when the sun shines!

Lovely views, great location

We stayed here at the end of August, just after a few days of heavy rain. The site is level and well drained but as a precaution extra matting had been laid down at the entrance of the site to make it easier to drive on and off. The owners are very helpful and welcoming, you felt that nothing was too much trouble if you needed to ask for help. Lovely hill views in the distance & the site is well located to explore the North Devon coastline. We couldn’t explore as much as we would’ve liked on our scooter as the weather was not great but we particularly liked Croyde bay. I would advise if approaching from the East, not to take the A399 but go via Barnstaple, the A361 & A3123, we did this route when leaving and it was so much easier than the A399 which is narrow in places for an A road. Overall an immaculate CL, highly recommended.
