Fantastic CL

We came here in May encouraged by all the good reviews and everything was just as described. The walks are beautiful and the beck that flows behind the site allowed our dog to have a good splash after a walk into Gosforth to sample the pubs and the Italian restaurant and the lovely cakes and food at the Post Office. What a wonderful place. We had the cooked breakfast on the day of our departure and it was one of the best I've ever had - she is such a good cook. We also bought scotch egg and sausage rolls for our lunch but had to save them until the next day as we were still full from breakfast but they were delicious. We'd love to come back and what a shame it's a long way from home or we'd be there every few months!

Third and not the last visit!

Love this site. Good sized hard standing with grass pitches, very tidy. Clean and modern toilet and shower. Information chalet, selling delicious goodies etc. Welcoming and friendly, helpful owners. Peaceful and quiet. Delicious food delivered to van, afternoon teas with proper china cups etc. Full English which sets you up for the day! Too many handy places to list to visit, but some are Muncaster Castle, Ravensglass Railway, Wastwater which is stunning. Handy for the coast too. We will return for our fourth visit I am sure.

Peace and Quiet in Beautiful Settinga

We wished we could have stayed longer. You’ll have to go a long way to find a beat this CL. It had everything we wanted from a CL. It was peaceful, easy to reach local attractions, Caroline and Alison are very welcoming and you can even order breakfast or afternoon tea to be brought to your pitch. What more could you want?!

Perfect little Hideaway in the Western Lakes

Just returned home from a weekend break at this wonderful site, Caroline and her team are so helpful and friendly, letting us know about the local area, the views of the mountains from the site is lovely and the sound of the river is a gorgeous sound in the mornings, the facilities were fab, we ordered the full breakfast for the Saturday morning and wow, it was one of the best brekkies I have ever had, the site is spotless I cannot fault any part of it at all, the little honesty shop is such a fantastic idea, you can borrow games and books while you are there if needed, and also stock up on the basics if need be, there is also the delicious ice cream, I recommend the salted caramel for sure 😊 on Sunday it was my birthday so we had ordered afternoon tea, Caroline brought it to our MH on China plates together with China crockery and tea pot, the food was all freshly made that day and was fabulous, enough for two meals. We will definitely be coming back again.

Winter in the lake District

Just had a fabulous week at this site, cold winter mornings with fresh crisp views over to Wasdale. The site and facilities are excellent and way above the norm for a CL site, there is an information hut on site with local arts and crafts, there's also an excellent menu to choose from for great food to be delivered directly to the caravan, we made use of this with a great value English breakfast on our departure day. Departure day was different!! The night before it had snowed and hailstone, the access from the site was treacherous as they had not gritted the road to Gosforth, Caroline (Site owner) was not sure if it was a good idea to leave site for home and offered a number of solutions including leaving the caravan FOC until this conditions improved. We did leave and slow and steady saw us into Gosforth where the roads were gritted On this final day I was tasked with putting all the rubbish in appropriate bins, I picked up the waste bags and took to recycling, what i didn't realise was one contained some soaking wet clothes that weren't intended for the bin!! we didn't realise this until back home and the wife was looking for them. My wife contacted Caroline and unbelievably she not only recovered from the bin but has washed and dried them ready for collection in a couple of weeks when we visit again. Highly recommend this site, great facilities and vast amounts of walking, including from the site.

First time visit

Just got back from a perfect 2 nights at Holmside, simply stunning, brilliant, flat hardstanding pitches, clean and well appointed shower and toilet a bonus on a CL, the hosts breakfast delivered to your van was amazing and definitely above and beyond the norm. Plenty to do and see in the area, it’s the Western Lakes at the end of the day. Highly recommended and definitely going to use this site again👌

Weekend break in west lakes

We stayed 2 nights. Lovely spacious site with lovely views to western fells. En-suite toilet and shower access bonus! Plus all rubbish and recycling bins! Second time we have used a certified site as the first try in 2020 put us off by the owners unwelcome reception. Caroline was very friendly and welcoming with good communication to book. It’s only 20 mins walk to Gosforth where there are pubs and an Italian restaurant and Seascale has the most amazing large beach with a free car park and toilets. We also took the Ravenglass railway trip also recommended! Loved our visit to the western lakes and we will definitely be back next year! Recommended accommodation!!!

Hidden Gem

Just home from this CL and will be rebooking soon as diary confirmed. Where to start.. Easy drive from main road, approach from Gosforth only.. Quiet CL at back of farm next to stream. Information room with cakes to purchase, breakfast and food available to pitch, great selection of pubs short drive, possible 15 min walk to Gosforth. Toilet and Shower Room were great, facilities well set out and easy to use Elsa, grey waste and refuse with recycling. Area was great to explore, pack for wild swimming.. river shoes, wetsuits if you have them.. so many great spots for Paddling, SUP or swimming under waterfalls.. This area is now one of my happy places, simply love it.. thanks for a wonderful time..

A peaceful site in a beautiful location

We stayed here for a week, our first experience of a CL, and feel this will be a hard one to match! The site is so quiet and peaceful and very well located . There are several walks direct from the site including a lovely 30-40 minute circuit along the river which runs behind the site. The sound of the river was lovely to wake up to each morning. There are several places to eat within walking distance. We enjoyed a good meal at the Kellbank and also had a coffee and cake at the local cafe, Yan frae Yan. We enjoy cycling and found the quiet lanes and bridleways to be varied and interesting. We cycled along the coastal route 72 to St Bees and back and had an excellent lunch at The White Mare in Beckermet, a beautiful little village. The scenery in Wasdale and Eskdale, both within 20-30 minutes' drive, is absolutely stunning. The shower/toilet room is very modern and clean and we can recommend the Cumbrian breakfast, delivered to your caravan by Caroline, who is a very friendly lady. This was a very welcome treat after completing a 10 mile walk up Scafell and Slightside the previous day. We hope to be back and highly recommend.

Fabulous

Holmside CL is a fantastic & immaculate site. Peaceful, spacious well laid out pitches with lovely scenic views. The brand new bathroom facilities are a bonus too. Caroline is a perfect host & very helpful. We didn’t get the opportunity to try out the ‘delivered to your pitch’ breakfast or afternoon tea but would be a real treat! We managed a visit to nearby excellent Muncaster Castle, a fun trip on La’al Ratty (Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway), & beautiful St Bees on the coast. We can’t wait to return!
