Northfield Farm

This is a great CL. The area is very large for 5 outfits and the access although over a mile from the main road is now a new concrete road and suitable for large / heavy outfits. Our sat nav did not find the new road but the description in the sites book was accurate so use it ! The nearby railway line really is not a problem. Trains are not noisy and only pass about every 30 minutes during the day. The trains only take under 10 seconds to pass & don't run overnight. It was very peaceful and there is hard standing for 4/5 outfits. It is a working farm but we never really saw anyone. The welcome on arrival was good with clear information provided. Nearby is the small town of Kidlington with usual amenities. Blenheim Palace is only 15 minutes away and Oxford probably only 10 minutes by car. Next to our outfit was a field containing deer which was unusual but pleasant. Once on the site if you are looking for peace & quiet you will find it. There is water  / waste & hookup only but both worked well. The hard standing is slightly overgrown with very short grass so not easy to spot at first so just double check....it really is there for your big heavy outfits and is easy to spot once you get out on foot just prior to pitching. We felt very safe on site as there really is no one around apart from farm staff so is great for a relaxing break. Good value and worth a visit !

Adjacent to new railway being built.

Stayed May 2015. A very pretty site with lots of trees and a small river. All at first seemed perfect. Helpful friendly farmer took our cash. No mention of the railway being built. Children had a big area to play football. Settled down for the night. At 10 pm exactly, the work began. Building a railway! We hadn't even noticed it because between our arrival and bedtime, the work wasn't going on and the river semi screened it. As you can imagine, I got no sleep. If the owner had told us about it we could have made an informed decision as to whether to stay here. He didn't. This has been the first time ive been disappointed by a CL. And its the most expensive we've used. Not recommended.

Comment from The Club:

Many thanks for your review. The CL Owners have been in touch as they want to address your concerns as they make every effort to ensure people have the best possible time at their site. They are sincerely sorry to read that you were disturbed from 10pm onwards due to work on the railway. Unfortunately they are totally in the dark as to when any specific work will take place other than during normal working hours otherwise they would have informed you. The CL owners have been promised that there will generally be no work undertaken on weekends or Bank Holidays and it was a complete surprise to them that they were working on that particular night. As such they have made a very strong personal complaint to the railway team to ensure this does not happen again. If you had advised the CL owners of this problem they would have explained the situation and are really disappointed to learn this happened during your visit and impeded your enjoyment of the site.  They would have been more than happy to refund your site fee for the inconvenience and if you return they will look at offering a free night as compensation. They would like to assure visitors this is not normally a problem but if anyone does ever have any issues please do speak to them as they will always do their best to resolve.

Very noisy due to railway works. Loads of dog poo.

We stayed for a few nights on this site in September 2014 and found it very noisy owing to the ongoing construction work on the Oxford-Bicester railway line which runs adjacent. There's a constant loud hissing noise which sounds like water being use to clean gravel (possibly track ballast?) which comes from a large marquee-like structure next to the Orchard. They work at weekends as well as during the week. This is a venison farm with lots of deer which also add to the noise level. The owner didn't seem very friendly and there's dog poo all over the place because he doesn't clear up after his own two dogs have "performed". Doubt we'll ever use it again.

Comment from The Club:

The CL owners have been in touch as they are concerned about your comments and would like to address any issues raised as they want guests to have the best possible time at their site. As you can see from previous reviews, they always try and be friendly and helpful, with a warm welcome to guests, many of whom return again and again. They are sorry you did not feel this was the case. They would like to apologise for the noise from the railway workings, a factor unfortunately out of their control. The deer are not normally noisy so they were surprised to read your comments and can only assume it was the beginning of the mating season and the stags in the fields were trying to attract the female hinds with their roaring! This is usually only an intermittent noise, similar, for example, to cows mooing. They are again sorry if this disturbed you, however they do make it clear to guests that the site is a working farm and as such farm animal noises may be heard. With regards to dog mess, the CL owners have one dog of their own, who is kept under supervision at all times. They are particularly fussy about picking up after their dog and deliberately keep away from exercising her on either of their two CL sites when guests are staying. To support this point, they also give out an information sheet to guests on arrival, with particular notice being given to dog owners to be aware of other guests on site, and to ‘clear up’ after their dogs. I hope this helps address your concerns and thank you again for leaving a review.

Best site ever - but don't tell everyone!

We visit the area regularly to visit family and initially avoided Northfield because of the Railway line seen on google maps but after a few disappointing stays on other sites we decided to give it a try and wish we'd done it sooner - Northfield is the best site we have found in 30+ years caravanning! The site is perfect for dog owners being surrounded by public footpaths. Sainsburys supermarket at the end of the road. Excellent Gastro Pub nearby at Hampton Poyle. Good links to the area. The list goes on.... We are now regulars and spend as much of our time here as possible. The bridge and last section of road referred to by some is being removed and a new access being created soon I understand although I have never had an issue with a huge 4x4 and twin axle. My only worry is everyone finds out how good it is and I can't get in because it's full....

Top notch CL

The first time I've given 5 stars in all categories. This CL cannot be faulted. As others have observed, the final bit of surface over the bridge is iffy but still less hazardous than the speed humps that seem to be proliferating on CC sites. Otherwise I can but reiterate what others have said. Tranquil, spacious, scenic and convenient.

Nice C L

This is a pleasant CL with lots of space. The access along the farm road is not too bad until you reach the narrow bridge just before the farm. The surface is very poor at this point.  The grass was a bit long even though it had obviously not long been cut due to the amount of loose cuttings about. The owners were friendly and the information given was very good and we enjoyed our stay despite the fact that another member allowed their noisy dogs to roam free.

A Yes from us also

After your bumpy 1 mile lane, a lovely warm welcome from Mrs Smith. We were staying in EHU field named The Orchard, she also has another field with no EHU. The field has well cut grass it is very large and you can site your caravan where ever you want, if you want to be near the river you will want two electric cables, which we will take next time. While we were there most people are trained the CC way, awning, caravan, car along the hedge. The water, toilet waste and bins are all located on a large 12 square of concrete which is very organised and clean. There are lovely walks near the river and deer on the farm. Lovely and peaceful. Sainsburys about 5 mins away as the Park and Ride into Oxford. Blenhiem Palace about 20 mins away, good to visit, don't forget use your free Tesco vouchers..get before your holiday instead of paying £17 each.....go in free!

Gem of a site

We have just returned from a three night stay at this site and I have to say it was perfect for us.  Quiet and peaceful whilst still having easy access to many local points of interest. Sainsburys is only 5 minutes up the road if you need supplies. Along with a perfect park and ride to get into Oxford. A site we shall definitely use again.   Oh and the deer were a bonus.

It's a "yes" from us!

Lovely clean spacious site. Very pretty with river running at the bottom and occasional trains running the other side of the river. Handy for park & ride we used it to go into Oxford. Also went to Bicester, Woodstock, Chipping Norton and Banbury by bus from Oxford. Sainsburys nearby. Only downfall is the long bumpy lane up to the site (a mile long) but well worth it when you arrive.
