Quiet and relaxing weekend.

As the weather had been poor we only booked the evening prior to arrival. The owner was very accommodating on the phone and gave good information. On arrival ( in the rain) again he was helpful suggesting the best place to pitch and pointing out amenities. A quiet weekend just us and a motorhome, ground had good drainage but plenty of hard standing options if needed. The toilet and shower though inside a barn are spotless with a plentiful supply of hot water. The cost per night was £11, which included electricity. It was lovely to see the ducks, chickens and horses. The site is spotless and well kept. We will return.

Gem of a site

We recently stayed here for four nights and agree with other reviewers that John is quite a character. The main pitches are opposite the barn and whilst we were deciding which pitch to choose John offered us an upgrade to the deluxe pitch! This was located down a small track through a gate and turned out to e a huge field all to ourselves with panoramic views over the gorgeous surrounding countryside with a view of Chesterfield and its crooked church spire. We have a collie dog who was delighted with all the space to run around in. As mentioned by other reviewers the toilet/shower area needs updating, but is perfectly adequate and always clean. The farm has lots of animals -Welsh Cobs, sheep, geese, chickens and a very handsome rooster. We spent quite some time watching a foal running in the adjacent field with its mother. There was a badger set at the bottom of the field and we caught.a glimpse of one late one night. The area is extremely quiet and peaceful with a bus stop right outside the site and a return to Chesterfield cost around £3.30. Chesterfield is well worth a visit. It has a church with a twisted spire and a great market several days a week. Several coffee shops etc. Plenty of walks around including Linacre Reservoirs with all the wildlife associated. All in all a great site and we will definitely be back again. Really good value at £11 per night.

The views make it!

Just returned from a short weekend break here 2 nights of relaxing bliss. The views are amazing, and free roaming chickens and ducks along with a field of horses and baby foals really add to the country feel of the place. We paid £11 a night which is a fair price for a pitch, 2 adults, electricity and an awning. The bathroom facilities are basic and could do with a touch up but were fine for the short stay. We rode our bikes in to Chesterfield which is around 3 miles away, there are also regilar buses that stop outside the CL. The owner is a character, seemed helpful and the other campers were all returners and i think we will return too!

Travel monkys

This was our second stop on our year uk tour. We have come from an expensive site so was unsure what to expect for our £10 bargin per night. The site is small but beautiful and has a feel of France. Surrounded by absolutely amazing walks and an abundance of wildlife, you may even see a badger! not to mention the Welsh pony's on site hen's and ducks. The facilities aren't top of the range but you get a hot shower for as long as you want...what more do you need really? Matlock and Bakewell are a must visit. Reservoir nearby but we preferred the walk around Holmebrook valley park, Free range eggs just up the road on the left. The owner is pleasant and a character...luckily for us we could stay extra nights as our van broke down! A lovely place to stay and we will definitely be back im sure. 5* We aim for all our sites to be £10 per night for the year so please follow us on facebook "travel monkey's" if you are looking for the same ❤

Will never go again

I have been using CLs since 1987 and always got on with the owners, however I have never been spoken to so rudely as the owner of this CL did. I saw the £6 fee in the book and expected to pay a bit more as the book is one year old, but he told me that the price was £10. Surprised by the 66% increase I politely asked if it had gone up, he then launched a shouting rant which took me by surprise. He claimed that a van is £6 and each person is £1 each and then electricity is an extra £2. The information here says that extra people are £1 each not the couple with the van and there is no mention of an extra fee for electricity. I will never stay at this place again. He is deliberately trying to undercut a nearby CL by putting a low price in the book then adding extras on when you arrive. It may still be cheap at £10 but is not worth the aggravation.

A PLEASANT SURPRISE

It was with some intrepedation that I booked this site for ourselves and 3 friends after reading the reviews. However we were all very pleasantly surprised. Ok the shower/toilet could do with a little TLC but I was under the impression with CL's that part of the price deal was that you use your own facilities. The grass was freshly mown and everywhere very tidy. The owner pleasant and a bit of a characterer and the views were to die for. If in the area would use it again.

Surprisingly nice

Well after reading the reviews I was a bit nervous on my approach.  You do need a wide swing to enter the site from the road but the owner does make you aware of this when you book.  When we arrived it was lashing it down with rain and we was greeted by the owner and shown the facilities. The site was full but only us parked on the grass as we needed our awning up. They didn't want the grass carving up with it being wet. He may have experience people who don't show consideration from people in the past who knows. He was very informative and polite and a bit of a character.  The bathroom has a toilet, wash basin and a shower. The decor is not great but it all works and for the price I think it's fine. I have seen much worse.  The site is not massive and I think most people would need a motor mover too.

Very poor CL

Very bad entrance but with care ok. site appears great good walks village and scenery. But that is all I can say . I have in 20 years never been so dissappointed. The grass area is ok and room for 5 vans (just) but we have a motor home and the owner did not want us on the grass ???? two grass pitches available and he insisted we parked on the hardstanding between the barn and the road to the farm. Our dog was tied up at our door and had to lie on the road. we sat in the sun for a beer on a hardstanding in front of our van. The folk with caravans were not permitted to park their cars near the vans on the grass they had to park on the hardstanding by the barn with us. I only spoke with two other members and we all agreed we would never return. I wish I could post a photo it was unbelieable. And the shower and toilet a disgrace what sort of people do the owners think we are .

A Pleasant, Relaxed Site

A most attractive little site set well back from the road, with a level row of grass for 5 caravans between a low wall and the back of the farm buildings surrounded by a heavily wooded area. This gives a feeling of being deep in the country, very peaceful with the silence only being broken by the sound of ducks and chickens foraging around you. In a dark alley through the farm building it has a small, rather neglected shower room with a toilet and large wash basin. There was no toilet paper provided, and no towel for hand washing after using the loo, but the shower works fine and there’s plenty of hot water. We did have a problem with the loo being blocked on our first day, but the proprietor sorted it out by the evening. This alley also has the fresh water tap and the chemical toilet disposal point, so this is a fully equipped site albeit with a feeling of stepping back in time. I would certainly recommend this site, especially as it is fantastic value at only £9 per night. Points to watch are: 1) the entrance to Offley Place is quite narrow and between two hefty stone posts, so be careful to give the inside post plenty of space when swinging in to the site 2) the road from Chesterfield to Upper Brampton is in quite a poor state of repair, so take it easy over the pot-holes! And finally, 3) because the space is limited between the plots and the building opposite, reversing into an allocated space is tricky and a caravan mover (or a lot of muscle!) would be a distinct advantage; without it, especially with a longer outfit, parking the ‘van is extremely difficult.
