Spring Break

We had our first stay at this site in April 2021 following the easing of lockdown. We received a very warm welcome from Vera who runs the site who explained the facilities available and details of local amenities. The site and facilities were spotless and there were lots of hand sanitising and cleaning equipment available. Great hard standings and grassy surrounds. The site is in a great location being just 100 yards from the beach. It is also on the cycle route 72 (Hadrians Cycle way). We cycled 70 + miles over 2 days on either traffic free tracks or quiet country roads. We enjoyed bright sunny weather. We would fully recommend this great little site

Two day October break not too far for us. Great place

Had a couple of days off and wanted to head not too far away. One tip is not to follow quickest way on sat nav route. Brings you a very narrow road with a restricted width near village. Go via Maryport or Silloth and follow Coast road. Site is situated right on the beach. It’s fab to walk dogs and you can walk into the village. Was looking forward to chip shop but was closed. But got a take away at the Ship Inn which was superb. Village had two pubs and a shop which is handy. Only thing is the pubs didn’t allow dogs currently. Site itself is great. Clean toilet and shower and all you need. Owner Vera is so welcoming. It was a wild weekend however so if it’s windy prepare to batten down the hatches. Absolutely a recommended site

Fabulous Site, a true gem

Just stayed at this site for a couple of nights relaxation- Lovely quaint location with stunning views and easy access to the beach providing walks to either Allonby or Silloth. The site is exceptionally well maintained, facilities spotless and Vera & Joe went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Thank you Vera & Joe for a lovely staycation, will be back in the new season. Many thanks, Lorna xxx

Perfect for dogs

Over the years we have driven to Allonby when we have been staying in Keswick to let our dog have a run on the beach. I had looked for a CL to stay at in the past but couldn't find one. So I was very happy to see Old Kiln Farm being reviewed in the C&MC magazine, I immediately booked a couple of nights, the beach is fantastic for dogs, when the sea is out you can walk for miles and hardly ever bump into anyone. There were some fabulous sunsets as well, we will certainly be going again for a longer break.

Just perfect - Would give Old Kiln Farm 6 out of 5 if we could

What a fabulous CL. Vera was great, from email booking to the welcome and kind hospitality during our stay. Super site with immaculate loo and shower and very spacious hard standing pitches. The views from the site are incredible; 360 panorama Lake District, then the beautiful beach and sea, then Scotland - stunning! And the sunsets were incredible So lovely to be able to just potter down to the beautiful beach which on bank holiday weekend was almost empty - bliss! Close enough to Allonby to be able to walk along the beach or coastal path in 20 minutes or so and we had a great Sunday lunch at The Ship Inn. We will definitely be back and huge thanks to Vera for having us

Surviving storm Ellen !

Got here Wednesday and could not have been made to feel more welcome, sea view to wake up too if you want the overspill field or nice compact area on the side. If only there could be more CL sites like this. Fist clash shower / toilet block immaculately clean. Vera is so nice and welcoming and made sure was happy, nothing was too much trouble. Had a walk down to Manor farm for a drink and walked down to the The Ship in for first class fish & chips. We've stopped on a few sites since the lifting of lock down and been really frustrated on most and felt like we should give up on this year for touring, but this site was a real find. I'm reluctant to book anymore for the year, because Im struggling to cope with the over the top Covid procedures which seem devoid of any sense, but maybe that's just my view on this. We will most definitely return here, caught the bus down to Maryport which runs on the hour past the site. Wish we'd have stayed longer rather than head into Scotland, but would not hesitate to recommend a stay here.

Amazing

What an amazing spot! We had a short break here Aug 2020. Fantastic views, very clean site (the cleanest portaloo I have ever used) Vera is so lovely & welcoming. The site is spotless, hand sanitizer available every where. we walked into Allonby along the beach & had fish & chips one day, the next day we did the same but had ice cream from the little ice cream shop that also sells essentials. so relaxing & even though it is on a main road its very quiet at night. Will definitively be back.

outstanding

Just visited Old Kiln Farm for 2 nights, its a immaculately keep site and working farm, Your host Vera is constantly ensuring that everything is spot on. The site is on a bus route to nearby towns but best of all is the wonderful beach walks. When the tide is out it reveals miles of sandy beaches. fantastic views, so take along binoculars for seascape watching. looking south east you can see the wonderful West Lakeland fells which are completely unspoiled and over tourism. The Georgian Gem Town of Cockermouth, birth place of William Wordsworth is a short drive away. Closer still is Mayport. home of the White Star Line with a lovely marina area. There are many gems to be found from a Roman museum to fantastic eateries. Vera is a very nice lady with a genuine interest in her guests, she is a mine of information and always on hand to help. she is rightly proud of the site. The toilet block includes a shower unit and is spotless, picnic tables are also set out for guests. The village of Allonby is a short coastal walk 1/2 mile (ish) and there you will find a nice pub, fish and chip shop and a shop selling practically everything. A really nice touch was that on arrival there was a welcoming maker board out with my name on it and the pitch number, this made us feel a little special. What I especially like about this site is it is placed right on the Cumbria Solway Coast. The sunsets are awesome and the area is of special scientific interest. I noticed people fishing from the beach so another recreational opportunity.
